Full Moon Lunacy?

Hey people :-)

Have been a bit absent lately. Sorry for that. I visit the forum frequently, but as I feel quite bad (and quite cynical), I don't have a lot of constructive advice to contribute currently.

I was wondering about this one thing though. I've noticed that once a month my symptoms get way worse. I become a raging, uncontrolled, hormonal maniac. First I thought that this was due to PMS, but I've been tracking when it happens, and discovered this: it always happens during a full moon, even without PMS.

I've been trying to bring my hormones back in balance by eating more healthy, and drinking tea (valerian), taking some supplements. It seems to help a little bit with the rage. But as soon as the full moon shows up again, it's "good-bye self-control". Does this sound familiar?

What do you think?

It's possible you're a werewolf. ;-)

It's interesting; the local news recently had a story about crime. The reporter interviewed several police officers who all said that there's more weirdness and crime on full moon nights.

There's also some science to support the idea that our behavior may differ on full moons. Obviously, there's more light on full moons, which makes it more dangerous for nocturnal prey animals and better hunting for predators. Now if you go back several thousand to millions of years, our ancestors would have been on the menu so to speak. There may be something deep inside us that makes us more afraid and more wary on full moons. It's probably a survival mechanism, and probably the same as our seemingly innate fear of spiders and snakes.

I'm sort of an anthropology buff, so I end up reading about stuff like this, in case you're wondering.

(giggles):hilarious: Oh dear, that was my first thought too! For especially this sentence was disconcerting:
But as soon as the full moon shows up again, it's "good-bye self-control".
Sorry Radise, I simply couldn't resist...

science to support the idea that our behavior may differ on full moons.
But it's not only just crime that rises. Every midwife will tell you the same; That there are more births during full moon. And in geriatrics, there are more deaths during full moon.

Awooohoooo!! ;-)

I've been looking for related topics in Google, as well, and it's interesting what kind of results I get. Half of them say that it's nonsense and that science can't prove any causal relationship. The other half seems to find some truth in it, like the example you mention WillyKat... your explanation makes sense to me.

And I have also seen articles to the likes of what Barconian said, that if you are extra sensitive, your are more highly affected. Could be true, as I don't have any memories of this affecting me so much ever before. It is true that I do get like a werewolf, there's just no reasoning with me. Locking myself up in a house on an isolated hill, actually is looking really attractive.

Still if this applies, what does one do about it? :P I don't want to be a raging werewolf with every full-moon from now on...

Present year is my fourth year as a student of Cultural Anthropology... ;-) So we are into the same thing!

I found that when I am extra sensitive, the moon has an affect on me. Other than that the moon has no affect what so ever! Same goes with my daughter.

Regardless of what the naysayers say, I believe the moon has a very strong effect. It just makes sense to me, that if the moon's gravitational force on water causes the tides to go in and out, and that the highest number of tidal waves occur when the moon's gravitational attraction is aligned with the gravitational pull of the sun (i.e. moon/sun opposite with the earth between them in a straight line), well, it just makes sense to me that those forces would have an effect on people too just as it does in the animal and plant kingdom. Old time farmers, and some young ones too, believe planting during a full moon produces more crops.

I suposse it makes sense that the moon has some influence on humans if it has influence on the rest of the planet... and it also makes sense to think that the moon affects us, after all the sun also has an effect on us. However I must say I like the effect of the sun way better than the influence of the moon so far.

I am definitely not a werewolf, but I am loony tunes on a full moon. Or new moon. I think tides and barometric pressure can really punch the mind in the face sometimes.

Haha, well I don't really turn into a furry wolf either :D But werewolves are agressive, and their leave traces everywhere when they've had an episode. I can completely identify with that. How does it affect you...? And do you have any methods to gain some control over it or do you just wait it out? :-)

I get super-charged with energy like I could run a marathon. Happy things seems happier, but angry things are definitely angrier lol. I wait it out, finding something to occupy my time. Movies are great for that. Now that movies are twenty hours long, one flick can get ya through an entire episode :o

I usually watch marathons of series (run out of series to watch though... watched all the good ones xD). But I also got to get to my homework some time of the day... I'm in a general angry phase lately, but it's encouraging to hear that the happy things get happier too ;-)
