Recreational Vehicle, actually.
There are a lot of definitions to what mobile home means in the USA too. A lot of the Motor Homes are actually considered a "second home" and can even be registered as that. There are a lot of insurance companies, including mine, that insure them as basically.. moving houses. Motor Homes of the Class B and Class A are more like ton and a half trucks with homes on them, much more than just a van.. like that of the Class C.
No, not necessarily. There are places that parking it won't be questioned for any amount of time, certain lots are safer than others. But you can practically stay there as long as you're entirely self contained/not messy. I looked for a manual motor home and they are excessively rare. I guess people in America don't want to "work" getting a one ton vehicle moving. Might get ten miles to the gallon on most of these ton and a half v8 vehicles, a little less if you're in traffic. The plus is also my mother is going to be staying in it with me, so she can sort of 'watch the house' while I'm not there. But I am not leaving valuables in it at any time, my car with its one way trunk is safest.
There are a few places in my area that do rent spaces for motor homes, BUT they don't do it over the winter. And their rates around about 800 usd a month to 1500 usd a month. So why bother staying at one if you're not breaking the law by staying at a parking lot from time to time? There is also a place not so local to me that provides year round sites/living for a flat rate of 500 usd a month. Once I am debt free, I do plan on having a good look at them.
The Class A I'm looking at has a shower and potty, if I'm so inclined I'll use them.. but I do have other places to take showers and use a toilet. There are a ton of local 'waste' sites that you pay 10 usd to empty your waste tank and refill your fresh water tank (given, I wouldn't refill it with water until cold weather is done). There are waste treatment plants that will have you dump for free.
