Nic,

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been so sick. I'm also sorry that you weren't given the proper immunizations as a child. There's no excuse for it. Here in the US about 12 or so years ago, after some doctor published a paper (turned out later that his facts and data weren't worth the paper they were written on) about how immunizations cause autism, a lot of parents stopped getting their kids immunized. The result? An upswing in the number of whooping cough, mumps and mealses cases reported to the health departments. Now there's an advertising campaign to get your child all the shots it needs. It's amazing that it's even needed! *stepping off soap-box*

I hope you feel better soon and that the doctors can give you something to help with the cough and let you rest and heal.

Lisa

Nicolette it might be a bit off topic but it's just something it made me think of. Back when I studied medical malpractice and blah blah at law school I remember a case where there was a girl brought to the hospital - easily could have been saved by a blood transfusion. Not a problem - could be saved. Doctors weren't allowed to do the blood transfusion because the parents were Jehovah's Witness (NO offence to anyone here - I do accept religious freedom). They needed the parent/guardian to agree. And they didn't on religious grounds.

But, all I could think about was how hard it must be for a doctor like that to have to not do the transfusion knowing the kid could be saved. Sad, is basically what it is. *shrugs*

Btw, I just checked my letterbox. That was really sweet and your handwriting is actually VERY neat! I'm so sorry you're not well when it could've been avoided ((hugs))

All the parent has to do is sign something saying it is against their religion

So true. About 4 years ago, I enrolled my son in a different school. I had a ton of paperwork to fill out and a deadline to have it turned in. I couldn't find his immunization records and didn't have enough time to request them from his Dr..(plus I was too lazy) so I signed the form saying it was against our religion.

I was actually surprised that I didn't have to show proof or answer any questions or anything.

BTW Nicolette, I hope you get feeling better soon. Good luck with resting your voice.

Thanks everyone.

I have been on two courses of antibiotics, steroids, prescription cough medicine, been given 10mg of Valium to help with relaxing throat muscles to aide sleep plus now including 2 x panadine forte (apparently the codine has a cough suppressent in it) plus a mouth wash which numbs the throat. Currently daily intake of soothers is four packets a day and I am wrecked from lack of sleep if nothing else.

Hot drinks help a little too as they put heat into the throat muscles.

Hope I get better before Christmas or I will be really cheesed and had to warn all family we are visiting to make sure they are up to date with shots. I found out adults should get a booster every 10 years after the age of 15, or if trying to get pregnant and also grandparents who are looking after their grandchildren!

I am so angry at the person responsible for making a choice in life to put not only her own children at risk but also affect my life so dramatically.

I am sorry to hear you caught that. I understand it is pretty miserable. We have had over 50 cases in our area and have been told that our childhood vaccines will no longer work also.

I am with you on the no talking thing...it would be hard!
