Gone Girl

About a third of the way through this one... it's ok so far, funny in parts more than anything IMHO. I actually quite like the characters thus far. Go is a little hyperactive... though Nick and Amy seem like your average struggling couple. Plan to sit down and read some more today.

I'm only about 3 1/2 chapters into it so far, my concentration is lacking :(. I like how it's written, it is enjoyable so far, although I'm guessing it's going to take a turn downhill.

Yep... just found the downhill. Amy's diary just outed him as a wife beater... turned to violence against his wife.

It started out funny... then turned to custard.

Just got to all that... she was pretending to be 'the cool girl' the entire time, showing him only what she thought he wanted to see. Ahhh.... the reality. I was reading it all thinking, 'chicks like this do not exist, and I'm damned if this fictional one is going to prove that wrong, when all evidence to date states it.' I was getting worried...

It's called, compromise... apparently! :cautious:

Her diary starts to now read about her setting him up, then bailing out. Interesting... my attention is now piqued.

Ok... wow... not an abuser at all. Instead, Amy is a sociopath... and Nick is just plain and simply stupid for staying with her trying to out-fox her. Now they're a family, and the past is the past and they will both be thinking about killing one another for the rest of eternity.

Talk about crazy... yet compelling... all at once.

No wonder this one got such awesome reviews... it's awesome!

I am still not very far into the book. I am on day three of her missing. I do still really like the way the book is written. I shouldn't have read as much as I did of the previous posts - I keep waiting for the twists and turns that are being spoken about. I do really like how the book is written, although it is a real downer, that's for sure.

I've immediately started reading a light hearted chick lit to lighten my mood.
I think I will need to start reading something a bit more lighthearted as well.

I finished it today and am also left with a bad taste in my mouth. I really wanted her to be found out for what she is and be punished accordingly. Instead she gets exactly what she wanted.

It is plausible I think also. I can only imagine being raised in such a home. It just wasn't the ending I was hoping for. ...but it was still well written annd a good read overall.

I liked this book quite a bit. In the beginning, it seemed fairly predictable. The husband did it. Isn't that always the way it goes on TV dramas? But then it took a turn I hadn't expected. The manipulation and story twists and turns made it a good read, in my opinion.

This book hasn't been discussed for a while, so I apologize for a new post on an older book, but I saw this on the page and had to write! I'm a little less than halfway through Gone Girl, and I still don't know how I feel about it. I love love love Gillian Flynn's other books because she writes much like the way I prefer to write...blunt, and having the narrator point out what the reader is thinking...in particular one part in this book where Nick says he has a mistress, he says "okay this is the part where you all of a sudden hate me, if you even liked me in the first place" or something to that effect. That's what I thought!

I hate to say that I'm a little disappointed with this book since I haven't finished it, but it's not keeping my attention like her other books, which I couldn't put down until I finished them. Needless to say, I hope I'm pleasantly surprised somewhere down the line.
