Next week is good eats for us. Christmas dinner is always Lechón (roast pork), plantains, black beans and rice, avocado salad and lemon flan for desert.

What is great is make the Cuban sandwiches for the next few days with the leftover Lechón
 
Chocolate milk and honey bun was Saturday breakfast when my Dad and I headed off to go do some chores. Riding in the front seat of an old F-100, the windows down, eating breakfast and playing in the wind. Those were the care free days. Wish I still had that old truck. sniff, sniff...

Where they not only have vegan boston cremes... (Heaven, I can't have dairy, they have the normal kind, too)

And I have had to sign a waiver to get a vegan maple bar with bacon (haven't lived! Like not having taken a body shot off a stripper in the French Quarter, -or France, or pretty much anywhere with gorgeous girls decked out in glitter & not much else- some things are just a life-must. Maple bar with strips of crispy bacon laid over the top is just an I need to sit down now, experience. And I don't even like maple bars... Until correctly topped, it appears. Wow. Like, wow.)

They also have the fairly infamous "That's probably supposed to be a rocket..."

No lie, it's like a foot and a half long.

So I'm having an attack of the must-eat-veggies. I've been living off of PB&Js & cereal when I remember, and making truffles, and the donuts have pushed me over the limit.

Fresh Basil Pasta w/ Chorizo Shrimp.

I feel all responsible & shit, now. Look, ma. I'm totally healthy ;)

Can't vouch for the beer. Haven't had it. I think beer should be beer flavored.

I'm baking... So I must be depressed. Be that as it may:

(Vegan) Whiskey Bread Pudding w Vanilla Sauce
- Loaf of Italian Como Bread gone stale (or a pair of baguettes, or whatever. Bread).
- Almond milk, couple cups (enough to cover, don't pour in yet)
- Stick of not-butter & Brown Sugar creamed together with a splash of bourbon vanilla until it tastes wow.
- Spices : Cinnamon (lots), nutmeg (little), clove (even less), garam masala (maybe)
- Golden raisins soaked in whiskey for a while, plus whatever they don't absorb

Essentially... Mix it all together*... Let soak awhile... Squash it down flat (I use bricks wrapped in tinfoil), let sit a little while, forget about it, remember it... Throw it in the oven, swear at the bricks you forgot to take off before they het up to a million degrees, take the bricks out & crumble more brown sugar over the top, knock back a shot of whiskey in homage to the baking gods, and bake at 350 until hot and bubbly throughout and mostly dry on top (pour out any extra liquid, then give it a minute or three extra, if your bread just didn't soak it all up as it should, stupid bread)... Then either crank up the heat and watch it like a hawk under the broiler for half a second to caramelize the top, or whip out a blowtorch... And voila. Serve with vanilla sauce.

* The Hard Way : Massage that brown sugar butter cream into the bread, and get all your spices into the milk adjusting until it tastes almost too sweet & spiced to bear (the bread mutes it), and pour over. Fold in boozy raisins.

* The Cheater Way : Dump your raisins in and give it a good toss so they're not all hiding in one corner. Melt that sucker (butter cream) in the microwave & add to warmed up sweet & spiced milk (also microwave) & pour over.
 
If you have a few tomatoes lying around, an onion or two, this makes for a nice sidedish.
Salad Garief, aka hot salad.
A few tomatoes
onions
hot pepper
sweet Bell pepper
garlic
oil
salt, sugar, cumin, cilantro (optional)

Slice onion and garlic fine, fry till brown in hot oil. Add halfway this process the chopped peppers.
When all browned add the diced tomatoes. Cook until moist has evaporated and it forms a thick substance.
Add chopped cilantro, salt, teensy bit of cumin and sugar to taste, The last two can be withheld.

Nice spicy sidedish, eaten with just about anything.
