I would like to add here that it is not only women and children that suffer at the hands of rapists but men also, maybe forgotten sometimes but this is also very much part of the reality for some people.
This world is a strange place, and so many things happen and that we cannot always have an understanding of why they do, or the mentality of those that carry out such vile and attrocious acts against others. Letting go of feeling that we need to understand why some people act the way they do has helped me much of late. I nop longer feel like i need to get inside the mind of my attackers or abusers. I felt that I had to understand so I would be able to change myself or be ready or able to see what might happen next, but I can see that somethings are really just totally out of my control and will never be explained no matter how long I spend trying, I will not always know.
I think we have to consider ourselves lucky that while we may have suffered some things at the hands of others that we ourselves while damaged do not have it in us to behave in the same way that our perpetrators have.
I can only hope that understanding and raising awareness of all that happens will reduce the stigma and ignorance of many that just have no real empathy or understanding for anyone outside of themselves. It is maybe a better place that we have found and have a voice now, and we can only hope that we are all able to make our voices heard constructively in whatever way possible.
By walking out of something we are able to raise some awareness, may not be all we hope for but it is a place to start, and maybe each person that was left in that room will be touched by what oyu have done and also by their own reactions, and maybe they will become in time more understanding of the pain that exists in this world. And maybe they will themselves become a voice for change...we can hope.

This thread has given me much hope and much to think on, I thankyou for your courage in starting this here, it is not an easy thing to put yourself out there and trusting ourselves is often one of the hardest things to do, but it is a good begining before setting out to trust others maybe. Whichever comes first I guess doesn't matter, it is I believe in part trusting that we are able to move beyond some what PTSD has done to us-it is for me anyway.
