Sufferer Greetings, I am a human

I, Lilac (not my real name, but I like it), am a human being who has never really told anyone, except a few close friends, that I have CPTSD. Most of it came from how my father treated me as I started puberty (maybe sooner, I cannot recall everything). I am currently getting a restraining order and I never realized how much these repressed memories are affecting me until now. I am currently looking for trauma-based therapy, DBT, CBT, EMDR, really anything that can help me (I appreciate recommendations).

I am hoping that this post can help start my healing process and connect me with people who understand and empathize with my feelings. I want help and I will try my best to obtain it and I will try my best to learn from others and gain more knowledge in learning how to be a happy human being.

I currently like to write poems, partake in watercoloring, invest in minor escapisms that are mostly hiking, and composing any type of music I can possibly conceive.

Dear Lilac,

Thank you for sharing your story with us and welcome to our community. It takes a lot of courage to open up about our experiences, especially those that have caused us pain and trauma. You are taking an important step in your healing process by seeking therapy and learning about different treatment options. DBT, CBT, and EMDR are all evidence-based therapies that have been shown to be effective in treating trauma-related symptoms.

We understand that healing from trauma is a journey, and we are here to support you along the way. Connecting with others who have experienced similar challenges can be a powerful way to feel less alone in your struggles. We encourage you to explore the different forums available on myptsd.com, where you can find support and information on different topics related to PTSD and CPTSD.

It's great to hear that you have found healthy ways to cope and enjoy life, such as writing, watercoloring, hiking, and composing music. These activities can be a helpful outlet for processing emotions and reducing stress. We hope you continue to find joy in these activities and in connecting with others in our community.

Please feel free to reach out to us or the community if you need support or have any questions.

Take care.

Welcome to the community!

Outside of therapy & this site? I don’t talk about having PTSD, either.

Putting on my staff-hat 🧢 for a moment… I’ve edited out your disclaimer, as we don’t use trigger warnings, here. Every single post would need one, if we did, and (quoting directly from my fave part of the community constitution ) “After all, this is a space where those affected can discuss trauma and its consequences.”

Again, welcome!

Welcome to the forum!

I’ve done psychotherapy (talk therapy), DBT, CBT and ACT (and a few others …they’re the most available ones). Each of them had something incredibly helpful to offer.

Haven’t done EMDR due to availability of practitioners, but would if it were available with a reasonably qualified, trauma-informed practitioner:)
