Welcome Jim. This site has really been a gift for me. Like you I kept telling myself that I was fine, no problems.
Boy was I wrong! Some days are good and some not. No matter what is going on I can come here and talk, vent, yell, scream or whatever and everyone here understands. I have found that people, even those in the military, don't understand what those of us with this beast go through. Its nice to come here and feel excepted and understood. I hope that we can do that for you. Take care.

Deb

So Deb what did you do in the Military, what branch, I've known some bad ass females in the Airborne, here & from Isreal, I had a nice relationship with a female first sergeant who was a jump master & combat medic in 18th Airborne corps, she was cool

Well, Drabs08, sorry I'm not some badass Airborne. I'm a squid. I deployed in 05 with the Marines, 2nd FFSG as a surgical nurse. Spent a fun filled all expenses paid vacation in Fallujah and Al Asaad. I can cut and sew with the best of them. Taking lead out of people I can do, putting it in, not so much. We got the aftermath. IEDs, RPGs, gunshot wounds, mortar attacks. I learned real quick the difference in outgoing and incoming artillary and I can identify helecopters by the sound they make. I also learned that I can move real quick when properly motivated, like not wanting to die in a port-a-potty as incoming mortar rounds started raining. Yep, all it takes is the right motivation and this fat ol' nurse moves pretty quickly. I've only got 43 days left in this here canoe club and then I'm off to the world of civilians and red tape. What's life without paperwork!

Thats still cool Deb, every body served in some way for freedom, thats all that mattters, I'm not the arogeant young soldier I used to be, I was just a soldier serving, God bless

Welcome! I avoid this place till I cant anymore. I come into vent and try to calm down a bit.So I am late to say hi.
My problems are layered. I have childhood abuse and ptsd. I also have Combat ptsd and the two mix a lot.
I flash sometimes. For me it starts out with my normally bad sleep getting worse and worse. I will go from 4 hrs to maybe 2-3 10 minute naps within a few days. My nighmares cross over into my awake time. I can flash on one thing or have rolling series of different flashbacks. Triggers -smells esp. Set me off if I am severly sleep deprived. i lose time sometimes...sometimes for hours.
I am there right now. I have slept maybe 3-4 hrs in the past 4 nights. Im on the edge big time.
Just like you I waited to say I had a problem. I always knew I had some issues but I would put the blame on other things. Talking about the feelings and trying to get the stress out made it really bad for me. I would say I am just like I was before I got out of the Marines. Maybe even worse than back then. Its been over 20 years for me and I still cant come to terms. I wish you luck. It is a long hard road. If anyone tells you its easy they are full of it. I tried to tell some close friends about it and they treat me like a leaper now. use some care and caution about getting this off your chest. Its not a good idea imo. I hope you find it easy and simple to get it out and walk away from this. I would only wish that everyone could scrub down....clean it off and move on.

You're right, Red. They haven't got a clue. You can tell by what they say. Best to avoid it. They treat you like you are making a big deal out of nothing.....seriously!
