Has Anyone Being Mis- Diagnosed With Epilepsy When They Really Had Dissociation?

these are 2 problems, that look very similar.i don't understand how people take medicine for epilepsy and it does not help, but keep taking it for years..?

I actually have both conditions. Sometimes, distinguishing between partial seizures and dissociative episodes can be quite complicated. EEGs do not always show seizure activity - my EEGs show abnormal only when a certain type of electrode is used.

I also had to go through several medications before I found the ones that helped control the seizures.

For a long time after my DID was diagnosed (long after the epilepsy was diagnosed), I was pretty sure I didn't really have seizures, but I continued to take meds because it wasn't 100% and if I stopped the meds and it was seizures, I ran the risk of worse seizures.

Now, years later, I have both partial seizures and dissociative episodes. I know that, because the character of the seizures changed. Now I have seizures that don't look like dissociation at all. I still have the other type, as well. The newer seizures still aren't controlled by meds - probably never will be.
