Has Anyone Brought Photos To Therapy?

My psydoc will sometimes ask to see a photo or video of my dogs if it’s on my phone/iPad. She says it’s important for her to understand what is meaningful to me.

I did it in the beginning. I liked doing it. I remember that was the first time I lost track of time and she let me go way over without saying anything. I hate being late and it’s very hard for me to feel like I’m stealing anyone’s time. I’m still working through that. Maybe I will bring the pictures in again some time to revisit those old feelings.

I have photos of my trauma on my phone and showed them to my current therapist when we first met.

I look at them now and again, more for my own type of exposure therapy really.

I have. It helped a little. We still got people mixed up, but I think it helped with getting an idea of how many people there are in my family. She might not be too much more likely to remember which aunt was which, but she remembered better that there were quite a few of them.

Do you want to show your T sone photos @Kubash16 ?

I’m thinking about it. I’m not positive on why I have a strong desire to though. Like I want to bring him a little more into my world and show him the people I talk about, but not sure how to broach that or if it’s even normal or appropriate lol.

I take photos in (and send them to him in email) periodically. My cats, my niece and nephew, some of the animal and other photos I've taken, as well as childhood ones. Photography is one thing I do well, so sharing my pics reinforces that I'm not a *total* loser.

First time I took in photos from my past I just said, "Hey, there's something I want to show you." Exploring photos and journals, etc...from the past has been incredibly helpful.

They were virtually no photos of me as a child- one for sure but I lost it who knows where, a couple I threw out. Maybe 10 or less total the last 40+ years. Which I prefer.

I like happy photos, or of the dog. :inlove: Or of other people. I can't remember what people looked like without photos. So I hate photos that weren't/ aren't really reflective of how others looked or look. I can't visualize but I can see the difference to my memory.

I take great candid photos though, always could. I think it's just waiting for a relaxed, legitimate moment, laugh, smile, etc., to catch the real essence (in a positive way) of the person.
