I have been in Peru and had Ayahusca with and without a shaman for 7 months. The shaman was using other medicinal plants as well. It was very healing, and teaching.
I use Ayahuasca once a week now. I do it alone. It is very cheap and easy to get and prepare by the way, at least where I live, and in the recipe I have.
For me it is healing negativity. Not always easy, as the negativity emerges and being cleaned. It also give me clarity and insight about directions I need to take in life. It also helps develop positive qualities such as faith. Besides being a very meaningful experience for itself.
With that being said, I don't expect Ayahuasca to be the only cure for me, and to my traumas and difficulties. I also use other medicinal plants daily.(Passionflower leaves, Rosemary, Lemon balm)
I would recommend to first use it with a guide. Although I know there are people who do it by themselves. It might be risky though for some people to do it alone, as the experience can be overwhelming. And like other substances you should know how to take it. I take moderate doses, and I sing so not to get carried away by negativity.
I can give more detailed information if necessary.
