Healing is a trigger

Imagine what you could accomplish, having seen things now from both sides of your desk.

I read this with a huge 'I don't f*cking care". lol..I've considered it, and deliberated many facets of the situation.

it's a no from me

I was so disappointed w the agency I worked for and how unsympathetic they were to their employees who had mental illness/sought treatment. I was like this is a joke right, isn’t this in your mission statement.

HA. That's my employer as well. I actually had two at the time, but the one that is solely the mental health agency in my community is the one where HR was giving me grief. She made a comment to me saying, "There needs to be an end to this! We can't just keep receiving notes saying you're off and can't work!". I was like...:| are you kidding me? I'm sorry my trauma recovery is taking too long for your liking??? I mean honestly! If I said that to one of my clients while working, you know how fast I would've been fired! I'm so sickened by the lack of empathy and the invalidation those struggling with psychological issues face from others - especially those in positions who are supposed to be supportive and caring. That also diminishes my interest in returning to work. How replaceable does that make me feel? I get into a life threatening car accident (not many people survive a collision with a moose), and they are mad at me for not brushing it off faster? wtf man.

@Stephernovas - are you making all efforts to physically support the efforts you are asking your body to do? So, say, the soreness - which is natural, and would not be an issue except it is triggering PTSD stuff. You can go at it two ways - mitigate the activity, so you get less/no residual pain, and mitigate the pain, so that it lessens in intensity and becomes more tolerable (something that you can navigate with cognitive tools and be diminishing the trigger slowly over time).

Epsom salt soaks, potassium intake, etc...all stuff I'm sure you are familiar with (probably more than I am).

Sorry in advance if I'm mis-reading what the issues are...

You have a lot on your plate. I understand the part that you minimize this accident in your head and expect yourself to be back to your old life.

I keep those expectations up for myself too but my life has changed due to the unraveling of a self over time that comes from untreated cptsd over a lifetime.

Our circumstances may be different but the bottom line seems to be ,on some level ,the same for ptsd sufferers.

I understand the "system" that you have to conform to. I had a workmans comp doc once and after a few visits, he encouraged me that i was fine and could quit physical therapy. It seemed to me he wanted to cooperate with "the system" and not keep us for too long.

I admire your resolve and attempts and your description of your experience.

no problem. I appreciate your suggestions. I feel like I'm working on it and doing what I can. I'd rather not back off on attending the gym or doing exercise. I'm looking for the best support/guidance around that though.

You have a lot on your plate.

That's likely what it is. I think I'm still struggling with the post-concussive syndrome too. Many times I feel off balance or cognitively slow. I would most definitely not feel comfortable working with clients while still functioning like this - especially those struggling wither certain mental health issues. My concussion doctor was worried about sending me driving or to work with clients that may be combative.
