New Here
Hello everyone , been diagnosed with Combat ptsd for 10 years been through hell nerly lost my life countless times just wanted the pain to end , put my family through hell pushed my wife away thinking she would be better off with someone else who could give her the life she deserved, thankfully got her back last year but my heart is broken.
Managing myself better now though, got a war pension ,got a job and have the support of Combat Stress
and am on the right meds after trying countless other ones .
Been at the bottom and the only way thereafter is to look up , never thought id get through this and i cant believe im still here , still drink too much maybe but not as much as i used to , that wasnt the problem only a symptom havent found much help from the NHS side of things , walked out of two so called counselling sessions run by people who have the qualifications but until youve experienced ptsd i dont think you can possibly have any comprehension of the nature of the beast, just my opinion.
I served in the british army in sarajevo in 1995 and in kosovo in 2000 and have been a civvie now for 11 years.

Welcome Humpty,

There are a few guys on here that have served in the same places as you.

Mate, when I did the PTSD course I thought the same as you, 'How can they stand up there and tell us about PTSD and what we are feeling'.

There are some psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers/therapists out there who have the bit of paper and think they are instant experts, but not all of them.

You see, my psych (who happens to vet everybody going on the PTSD course) has devoted his whole career to PTSD. That's his specialty. My old therapist (retired now) devoted the last 10 years of her life to veterans and their partners.
They might not have any idea what it is like to experience the symptoms of PTSD, or experience combat, but I think they have seen enough veterans and heard enough veterans stories to be able to give us an insight into some of what we are feeling.

I hope I don't sound harsh, but if it was not for several of those people, I would not be here today. They saved my life, and helped me understand a bit more of the beast. Just like some of the past members of this site. They have helped me and saved my bacon a few times.

I myself am by far not an expert and have no qualifications, but I hope to be able to help some of you on here who want it.

Hello Hamish. Glad CS are a help. Totally agree about NHS I found them about as much use as tits on a fish (actually tits on a fish would make more sense).
Did Bos and Kos, wasn't in the stadium in Sara, went straight to Ilidze.

Hello mate, Im still serving UK looking at getting MD'd possibly due to PTSD !. I come under the new PO system(old Y list) andHelp for Heroes but gonna need Combat Stress in the near future so it would be nice to have a chat some time. Had mates out in Kosovo in 2000 (i was having another knee OP) and they saw some f*cked up shit, Artillery lads. Did 3 tours of the Balklans myself, cant beat Ethnic cleansing !!!
Take it easy, tablet and music time.........................

Merry Christmas Cocker, sorry to see you are here. But welcome anyway.

Was also on the Brit Army, but am living in Germany, left in 95, after tours of NI, Gulf, Bos and co. only diagnosed 3 years ago it must be now.

Thanks for mesage , dont know how the new system works but they [the DWP] offered me a lump sum or a pension...i took the pension wasnt going to be payed off and knew the pension would be better , combat stress are good but are really over stretched at the mo , they try to get you in , or do in my case every six months but they can only do so much , good for getting the right meds and just being with fellow sufferers helps, but when you leave you really are on your own, the civvies really dont give a shit nor understand , why should they ?
Trying to take it easy and taking the tablets , since ive been ill really got into the metal ......take it awy killswitch engage !!!!!
