I have to be honest, without the meds I'd likely be dead or in jail. I understand that some people are more prone to becoming dependent on them; however, you are aware of that possibility and at least you're honest about it. As well I have heard much about Marijuana being used to calm anxiety and it being very helpful. Remember though that you can become dependent, not "addicted", but dependent on it as well. Consistant therapy is always a good thing, and a ear to listen always helps.... I guess thats what we're here for too :Dyes, active duty. i have a few family members that have similar traits as me that are stuck on prescription meds. i am not experienced in that area, but just see that it might be a rocky avenue. with marijuana, i have no problem with it causing anxiety . the first time i smoked was a very anxious awakening, but since then it seems to be the only thing to mellow me out.
I have one of those addictive natures. I am an alcoholic and had an addiction to both Xanax and Codeine, I also was heavily dependent, well you could say addicted to marijuana. Regardless of all these habits I kicked, including cigarettes, the majority of medication that are used to treat symptoms of PTSD, are non addictive. Yes your body can become dependent, but can be weaned off all the same. It's always important to bring up with your MD or psych the point about addictive drugs.
For instance, doctors and psychs love prescribing drugs like ativan and xanax for anxiety. I just watched a recent documentary on the long term affects these drugs can have on the body and on families.
There are other drugs out there which treat anxiety, for instance a good alpha or beta blocker works well.
Anyway, in the end it's all a personal choice, all we can do is share stories and give warnings.
Cheers
