Another thought. Maybe your T doesn't change the topic, but you do subconsciously? When you ask, maybe use the language "it feels like you...." This is more open and allows your T more options in how they answer.
Thank you all for the input. I will clarify things with my therapist the next time I see him (in about six weeks or so). What has helped the most is non-judgmental friends who help me to establish boundaries for "exposure," so I can generally avoid bad reactions to triggers. It seems that I'm triggered by everything lately.
