New Here
hey everyone. I'm a teenager from the USA, and I'm pretty sure I have PTSD.
I wont go into it because I don't wish to trigger anyone, but I've been having issues related to my experiences with sexual assault and rape.

It's been getting worse, and to the point where its getting kind of scary (coming from someone who was already diagnosed with anxiety, and who has hallucinations).
So while I wait to be able to get into the doctor (not just for ptsd, but also to check for std's and such), I figured I'd join a community where people have experience with PTSD. I may not post often out of shyness, but even for the resources and reading other peoples stories, I feel like it will help me.

At this point, I just want to be the best person I can be, and be confident in my own skin. My ultimate goal is to take myself and my identity back from those who've hurt me, and be the person I want to be. I would, in the future, love to be able to show them that they don't have any control over me. But that'll be a long road.

As far as I myself go, I like dogs, sweaters, Lady Gaga, and the show Supernatural. There are more, or course, but those are my main things right now. I have a service dog, but as he ages, I hope to get a new one who's a little more intimidating (I love my dog, but he's a rat terrier, and if the paranoia insists, a german shepherd or an american bulldog would make me feel a little safer). Of course a service dog can't be trained to be aggressive, but having a 88lb dog watching your back tends to feel more secure than an 18lb one.
I also have a cat, a crested gecko, a mouse, and a hamster- one could say I have an animal problem, but caring for them gives me a little bit of a purpose.
And if I can graduate high school, I'm hoping to go to school for cosmetology and become a makeup artist in the future-and while its a cliche, perhaps even join a traveling circus.

But thats enough on me and my life.
I hope you have a good day, whoever may read this.
see ya around!

Dont worry too much about triggering people. But then again, dont go into overly explicit details. For example, i used to be a butcher and had a couple near death mishaps, but i usually leave it at that due to the nature of that job i had.
This forum is basically a form of "exposure therapy" so you might be bothered my some content. Personally i have been too, and i just had to exit the article.

People here are usually pretty helpful and friendly. Maybe just start with a trauma diary or something like that, thats where i started.

Welcome to the forum. Peace.

Welcome! This is a very caring and supportive place you found. Very glad you are here!
Like the fact you have pets.Had to laugh about your service dog!.. The little ones can be quite aggressive, little ankle biters!
We are more than mostly nice here. Many people willing to help.
I like your idea about reading around and that it was shared you may be overwhelmed at times.
If you read something and have questions feel free to start a thread. You will get more responses from a thread.
You sound like a very brave and determined young woman. Glad you are here.

Hi @artpop welcome to the forum :)

I'm not easily triggered, I just have a fear of hurting other people.
We don't use trigger warnings on this site, and people are free to go into as much or as little detail as they feel is helpful to them. Members are expected to manage their own emotional and psychological regulation, so please don't worry too much about triggering other people. Everyone here has the option of not reading, or stepping away from, threads that they feel are, or may be, difficult for them.

You can read more about this in our Community Constitution.

My moms chihuahua is the definition of an ankle biting little dog-not mine though. He's stubborn, but he's never expressed any of the typical "small dog aggression" traits-since he comes with me to the store and such, I've had little kids come over and mess with him, and he tolerates it like a champ.
I'm glad to hear more assurance of kindness on here!
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad to be here.

Happy to know that you picked up that this is a safe place.
Very caring people who have been thru unimaginable pain. Yet they are willing to listen. Lend a shoulder to cry on. And share ways that help us heal.
Humans are here, so of course there is occasional discord. We have excellent Admin and mods that are on top of problems immediately.
So hope as you get more comfortable here you will realize this for yourself.
You might want to read the rules here. Very simple and very fair.
Glad you are here. Let us know if we can help.. Just start a thread and we will be present for you. Appreciate your reply.
Gentle hugs if you accept.
If your not ready for that..just stick 'em on a shelf and take one down if you need it!

Rock is actually my second favorite genre (my favorite is alternative)! A lot of my friends like ptv, even though I never personally got into it.

That are awesome! Do u like rap music and rnb? Aaliyah and Tupac are bomb.
I like some rap music, but I wouldn't say its top five for me. My favorite genres are more or less-alternative, rock, indie, pop, edm/etc (a lot of edm songs I like range from more experimental stuff, to indie, to remixed hip hop).
My entire list of artists I like is a long one, but it included Lady Gaga, Panic! At The Disco, Twenty One Pilots, Dalton Rapattoni, Nico Vega, Stephen, Imagine Dragons, Halestorm, etc.
