Hello, my name is Renee. Im a high school student. I joined this site after experiencing a school violence attack two years ago. I hope that this will be a good place to talk to others that might feel similar to how I am. :)

Welcome! Glad you reached out, this is the place I have found so much comfort and information . I'm happy you are here and you are not alone .

Hello, Renee, I don't know if you remember chatting with me recently - my wifi deserted me in the middle of our conversation.

Renee, I hope you will see your doctor and let him/her know how you're feeling. That will get you moving on your recovery. And you have no reason to feel ashamed of how you're feeling. You witnessed a horrific event. If you didn't have PTSD, I'd wonder what's wrong with you...

Hey @Renee123
It's great you are here. We are here to listen and send hugs with compassion if ok with you. You have been doing this on your own which is difficult. Just happy you are here and hope you feel safe and comfortable about unloading whatever you need to. This will help you feel better and you will feel more in touch with your feelings. Sending a giant hello kitty virtual pillow to take away that sadness and put a smile on your face.

I think it's worth remembering that the vast majority of people who experience or witness trauma don't develop PTSD - while people will experience degrees of post traumatic stress only about 15% develop PTSD. It's important to know that because of you don't have a PTSD diagnosis it doesn't mean you've not been impacted by trauma or that you don't struggle - even a long time after the event we can struggle without it necessarily being PTSD.

I think particularly with young people, accessing therapy at each stage of your growth and development is important because your understanding of what happened and its meaning to you will change as your cognitive abilities develop. Not necessarily a disordered reaction but an entirely normal process. I don't know if you have PTSD or not, but you don't need to have to be welcome here or to need help.

Welcome to the forum.
