Hello - Just Diagnosed With PTSD

My sister who is a therapist witnessed me "freaking out" a few months ago suggested that I go to a therapist to see if I have PTSD.

So I'll shorten my usually eloquent reply lol to a few words.


Generally, most people I mention PTSD to don't have a clue and what is more they cannot understand unless they are extraordinarily empathetic. I met an attorney who didn't know what PTSD was. Can you believe it. I've though for a good time that most people are wary of anything to do with a psychiatric diagnosis . . . why is a good question and rather complex I think. But there it is.


I guess the silver lining to the dark cloud is that there are a lot of people out there who have PTSD who can potentially understand. I guess the hard part is finding them and if they are well enough to relate.

I agree that some people are clueless about PTSD. Some people think that you just get over it. It is not that simple. :smile:
