Well heard from the garage already and more damage to the car that it is worth so thinking the insurers will probably write it off, just waiting to hear from them now. Need comfort for little man so thinking disco perhaps.

Disco is basically same chassis & running gear as Defender, but more 'civilised'. If you decide on that, I have a mate in the trade who can tell you what to look for and what to avoid....

Disco is good on comfort,

But not having an idea what emission restrictions are like these days in the UK.
Out here anything older than a TD5 is f*cking expensive on average 800@ a year just for Road TAX, and with the new "Feinstaubplakette" Partical Emission restrictions ie, Low emission zones, you can`t drive into most big cities with a TDI rover anymore.
Unless it is over 25 years old (the vehicle not the city - Alan), then it is classed as Historic.

Personaly the TDI 200 and 300 series, were the most robust and reliable engines they ever fitted. Even if they are dated by todays standards. cheap to fix, easy running, a bit noisey, and will drink anything that is oil based from Diesel, Colza Oil, or just good old straight out the chip pan Veggy oil.

Been running all mine since years on the stuff from the chippy. LOL

What Angle says. Go for 300TDI if you can, with EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-circulation). They smell a bit funny (exhaust - Alan) but are rock-solid. Yes tax is a bit 'ouch' in UK but not too bad spread over the year. Fuel economy is good with 300TDI.
I think Angle & me probably have identical anoraks.......

......I think Angle & me probably have identical anoraks.......

I`ll Flash if you do first  LMAO

Only prob with 300 Tdi Disco, was the back would rot, floor was a nightmare, and the side panels to the roof.

And for gods sake get one with out air suspension too bloody complicated and exspensive if they go wrong, nowt wrong with a good set of springs and shocks with a 2" lift so you can run her set up with 235 85 16 tyres on Disco or 130 Steels or 7,50 16 on the same rims, was all I ever used.

I think I need to have a look into getting my old vids digitalised so I can post them. Sunk my Disco into many puddles, LMAO,

Endorsed. Air suspension is for twats. (except if you are flying, of course, then it is a bit important..........)

I`ve been airbourne in a Series IIA 88, hit a crossed roads, flat out, Totaly forgot I had 5 spare wheels in the back

Nowt like a tyre in the back of the head to wake you up.

Thanks for all the tips guys really appreciated, think i will have to take daddy landy shopping with me, he has had them all and he does his own repairs on them so he knows what he is doing. Also means i can get him to fix it for me for a crate if anything does go wrong. Not going to be doing any serious off roading in it (thats what hubbys one is for) but will need to be able to take it over the farm.

In 1997 I had a P601S trabant. It wasn't a van like a landrover, but it was alright. I wanted one in light blue, but could only get papyrus white. I don't have it now. I can't get enjoyment sanctioned by my family. Anyway back to your vans.

Papyrus white? that was because it was made of paper. Horibble things, just after the wall came down here in Germany, all the east Germans came over in the f*cking things, stink like hell, never work, but are 90 Biodegradable LMAO

They are a real cult symbol out here.

I am happy with that picture. I like the red and will take any of the 3. The trabbi was fantastic. At the end they had an option for a VW polo engine. But I can't have one now, or a Yugo. Sometimes having a family is really shit isn't it?
Anyway, enough of this. I am hijacking another one.
