Help, Terrified Of Dental Treatment

I think it is the old ' I can cope with anything'.

Awww....but then you're depriving a potential new best friend the chance to be there for you, get to know you better, feel the deep satisfaction of being useful to another human being...and that is a deprivation, indeed.

I'd go with you if I could. I'd LOVE to!

I have to have a lot of dental work done too, and it helps me out a lot to have somebody there with me. I'm sorry you are having to have so much work done

, I know the stress and pain can be a lot! When the dentist is working on me I usually pick a spot to look at, and then think about the people I love and reasons I love them. This has worked for me, maybe it could work for you? Hugs!

I'm having a lot of dental work done and I am absolutely terrified. Lying back in that chair with someone poking around in my mouth, the smells, the tastes, gagging.... talk about flashback hell! I think the dentist is a really difficult thing for many trauma survivors.

Date for the removal of ALL my wisdom is set: March 16.

(((Brokenchild)))

My next round of dental work is also set for the 16th, OMG, this coming Wed - Aargh.

Let us hold hands and go together. We are strong, we can do this, we will not kick the dentist

.

We will stock up on painkillers, soup and ice cream. My comfort food is a nice soft cottage pie followed by ice cream.

Thanks Brontie, I do have an emergency supply of diazepam but try to avoid them. On dentist days I usually have to drive myself, so couldn't take them.
Good idea though

I too have an emergency supply of diazepam. Since refusing meds now for a couple of years, they come in handy when I feel the struggle. But we are talking about three or four times a year.

(((Brokenchild))) I survived as well. Mine wasn't as bad as previous times. I was actually quite relaxed, which was a surprise. Usually though I take painkillers before I go in, this time I forgot and after the local wore off I was left with gum/toothach. I took painkillers and wrapped a scarf around my mouth until the kicked in, the warmth helped.

I now have nearly 4 weeks until the next stage.

I hope you are recovering well
Love
KP

Recovering okay I guess. I'm sleeping a LOT. Lower jaw area is a little swollen and tender to the touch. Kind of bruised I guess. I'm not eating much because I can't open my mouth a lot. I had applesauce and frozen yogurt yesterday. Might try some scrambled eggs today when my jaw stops aching.

The ice bag they gave me didn't freeze right and I'm waiting for it to melt some so I can put it on my face. I'm debating on taking a Percovet but don't want to sleep all day today as well. If this ice doesn't melt soon, I won't have an option. This throbbing pain is annoying.

KP, what are you having done? Sounds like a lot of work. Hang in there.
