Help, Terrified Of Dental Treatment

My advice is sleep. It is natures way of allowing your body to heal. It sounds straight forward to have teeth removed but it is an invasive procedure and has a traumatic effect on the body. Take painkillers if you needed, nothing is gained in trying to be brave. If your cold pack doesn't work try a pack of frozen peas or corn, something small which will mould to you face. I find heat helps as well.

My teeth were damaged in my car crash last year. The damage mainly involves 3 molars on the right side. Top and bottom. I've had 3 teeth removed and I'm in the process of having one crown and two implants. There is not enough bone for the implant at the top so I had a sinus lift to build up bone. This round my dentist is working on the lower teeth. By May 4th I will have the bottom completed. Then if the bone has grown he will start on the top Implant.

Pamper yourself, eat soft comfort food when you can. Plenty of rest, feet up and watch trashy TV.

How are you doing KP?

I'm OK, this wasn't as bad as previous sessions. I have a couple of weeks off before the next session. How are you, are you swollen and sore. When you are better I'll tell you what happened when I have my 4 wisdom teeth out - don't worry not too horrid.

Not too swollen but definitely sore. I have a small face so instead of swollen, I just look fuller in the face. It still hurts to touch and when I don't take pain medication, it still throbs, though not as intensely as a couple days ago. I can hardly open my mouth though and still am not comfortable with solid foods unless I can mash them with my tongue or something. I guess all that is to be expected when all 4 teeth are impacted, two soft impactions and two bony ones. Oh well. I'm getting there.

I go back to work tomorrow, which should be interesting. I haven't been up for more than 7 hours at a time since the surgery, and that was today. I also get dizzy and lightheaded upon exertion. I go back to the surgeon on Wednesday to make sure everything is going okay.

(((Brokenchild))), IMHO going back to work after less than a week after invasive surgery is a little quick. If you feel tired and must work is it possible for you to do some half days, then you can rest as well.

Keep taking the painkillers regularly, don't wait for the pain just keep the supply in your bloodstream up, at least for a few more days.

Take care

Trust me, I am taking the pain meds regularly. I have to. I'm still in quite a bit of pain, and apparently walking around all day at work makes it worse. Joy. I did make it through the day though.

I went back so quick because the surgeon said to take the rest of the week off, which I did last week. He didn't say anything about the following week.

I called the surgeon today because I have a weird, painful, swollen knot in my jaw. They are extending my antibiotics for another 5 days or so. I guess they think it's an infection? Just what I need. On Wednesday when I see him I am planning on asking for more pain meds if it still hurts like this.

(((HUGS)))

And take more time if you need it. When I had mine out, I was off work nearly 2 weeks. My mouth wasn't so bad but I had a reaction to the aneasthetic. I was so stiff and sore in every muscle in my body I could hardly move around.

Rest and lots of nice soft stuff.

Take care

Ugh, two weeks? That's insane!! I really can't afford to miss much work. I need the income. I'll see what the surgeon has to say Wednesday.

Yup, still soft foods. I can still hardly open my mouth so chewing is out of the question, especially with the pain. Ugh

Surgeon said everything is looking good and healing nicely. No infections and no dry sockets. I'm just in so much pain still because it was such a difficult extraction.
