Homepage Content Management System

This story goes back a long way... though the simple version is that software used has now surpassed a point that allows me to once again use a good content management system (CMS) as our homepage.

Back when we were ptsdforum.org, early years starting out, we had a CMS homepage as the software we used then allowed it. Moving from vbulletin (VB) to xenforo (XF), XF being new software that surpassed VB in important facets, though lacked available solutions for CMS, blog and such, we imported to only a forum community.

How the early versions of the site were established, the community sat in a directory /c/ which you see in the URL. The homepage sat at the root level, so myptsd.com, nothing further.

XF has established enough with third party solutions, that after several years we can now implement a quality CMS solution. As such, this weekend is a good time, as weekends are the lowest traffic.

Liking mainstream software, as I do, Wordpress (WP) will be used which integrates with XF for users to cross between them to comment / post. I will not be allowing posting in the WP install, as that will contain our documents and articles, but members can continue the conversations on those documents via comments, which our current system (vault) doesn't adequately allow due to its own limitations.

The vault will move to the CMS, the CMS will then become the authoritative news source for documents and important news subjects to be posted.

I understand some members may like the current homepage method, though it was always a temporary solution. It isn't that WP or XF have evolved enough, but the bridge software between them has achieved such development status.

MyPTSD must evolve in order to maintain a reputable and quality status within the PTSD niche, and a CMS allows us to achieve this standing to firmly root the site not only for peer to peer support, but quality PTSD and encompassed informational content that can be readily found with ease.

The design of the CMS may confuse people at first, though it will come together quickly enough. The design will mimic aspects of the newly designed community look to follow in the coming weeks.

I will have to lock the site for about 30 minutes to get the initial load complete so that people don't have a broken site when appearing, then the homepage will be mostly blank until the content gets transferred across.

Homepage Thread Permissions

What thread titles you see on the homepage will depend on what permissions you have to see content. If you can see it, it will appear for you. If you don't have permission, you won't see the title on the homepage.

In simple, public will be everyone, member will be members only, so forth.

I only understand about 1/3 of that, although I love WP, so a hybrid between this site & those protocols is pretty exciting.

Only Q... Which may be answered above, just also above my head ;)... What happens to preexisiting saved content? (My content / bookmarks/ etc.?). Meaning should I go through and screenshot the URLs or... ?
