@Heather You can break the lease. When circumstances beyond your control are effecting your life then you do have the right to move. Its actually the landlord s responsibility to rent the apartment. I went thru this almost 3 yes ago. My attorney walked me thru it. Its also the landlords responsibility to ensure that everyone in the building is safe and that trouble makers are dealt with appropriately.

I would also go to your town\city hall and ask for the landlord\tenant handbook. I got one from my city hall. It has the rules for both landlord and tenant rights and laws.

@Heather Are you still staying with your mom???. Have you looked into the rights of tenants in your area? You can google it. Or get the booklet from your city/town hall as I mentioned. Hang in there!!!

@She Cat. Yes we are still at my moms...oh joy...not.

I get housing assistance and I know the drill my worker will say,"unless landlord signs mutual recession, I can't break my lease and if I do I lose my assistance.

Doesn't matter if its affecting my emotional well being or exacerbating my symptoms. Even if I get psychiatrist to write that its impeding my health...unless he signs that paper I'm stuck and that comes from a lawyer.

Right now I'm in a major funk. I don't know what to do. I had meltdown yesterday and today.

I was shocked cuz my mom was actually supportive. We had a line on an apartment from one of our friends... He was fixing it up and said he'd let me know...found out today he rented it to someone else. Move in date same time as our lease is up. I just burst into tears. My mom said, " it hurts doesn't it?". For my mom to say that...its huge!

I had just asked him 2 weeks ago about apartment and he never answered.

Just disappointing. :(

I just read everything and I think you are doing the best you can and good for you on calling the police. I would have a hard time since it is affecting your daughter so much. I am glad you are contacting an attorney because that will be done accordingly legally. I am glad you have your moms place to hide in and that she is being supportive. i understand your not wanting to move. it sounds like you have a very bad landlord. I am sorry you are going through this rotten experience.

@Heather Hang in there. I know how tough this can be. When is your lease up???? Keep looking and keep trying. I'm so sorry that you're going though this shit.

I'm living in limbo right now, and don't know where I'll be living either. I could be homeless or living out of my car. Who knows!!!,

@She Cat not a good place to be, been there, I lived in a cheap motel for about a month. The cleaning service was nice. I hope that you have a plan in place just in case.

@Heather I feel for you going through this one. Not fun at all.
