How Important Is It To Have Good Support? (guilt/burden)

I should have added to the last sentence... "three dimensionally". It was concern for my face to face relationships and my drag on my loved ones... that got me and has kept me online. Here the percentages are better. People answer when they are able/available. It is pretty much 24/7/365. My relationships have improved since becoming a member here.

How do you deal with the guilt of offering your burdens to other people, especially your closest friends? Have you ever asked for support from a long-distance friend? And of course, telling on the phone vs. face-to-face vs. email...? What should I do?

I trust strangers more with my personal burdens... and tend to protect my 3D (dimensional) relationships. Yes I have asked for support and received it from several long distance friends... though only one I have ever met in person. My 4 or 5 friends were all in recovery programs.

I think I would examine my friendship and determine if it is something I esteem and value more than my own neediness. If it is, I would seek and establish another avenue for support.

Totally aside from this, I would also add that people's opinions matter more when they're based on experience. People in recovery have that... friends... most of the time, don't.

I talked to my friend today and it was great. She was incredibly loving and supportive, took it calmly and kindly, said all the right things and asked all the right questions, and just blessed me so much with her sweet loyalty and support. I feel incredibly relieved and like a great burden has been lifted. Thank you all so much for your advice and help!!! :)
