How to prepare for therapy every other week

So I’m starting therapy with someone new next week after it being 6 weeks since therapy ended with my last t. I’m wondering how to make the most out of our time together since I’m used to going weekly and I want to use our time effectively. Can anyone share what’s worked best for them?

These three things have helped my therapy sessions become a lot more effective and has helped me cut the number of sessions in half:

1.) setting a "no small talk" rule
2.) bringing a note to myself of the top three things I'd like to work to keep me from avoiding what I most need to work on
3.) asking for homework at the end of every session

I also journal a lot between sessions, to sort out my head a bit.

I hope you find what works best for you!

I love the no small talk rule, that’s brilliant! I was thinking of just keeping the focus on one main goal at a time and also working with her to figure out a task(s) to try between sessions and then spending time on how it went, what went well, what didn’t and how to tweak things. Good idea to journal in between. I really didn’t focus much with my last therapist although I absolutely loved her. I also want to figure out a way to measure progress and am considering setting an end date right away so I stay on track and hopefully that will keep me from overstaying because I attachment. And if at that end date we talk and there’s more work to be done then we extend it for another set period. I’m hopeful that will help.
