keeping my hands busy is my most used deterrent for over-thinking. in my own case, idle hands really are the devil's workshop. it doesn't seem to matter much what i keep my hands busy with. the intrusive thoughts often keep right on intruding, but whatever my hands are doing is there to deflect.
i have a passion for language, so i often translate my intrusive thoughts into my least developed language. it is the ultimate reframing. at worst, it gives me more practice with the grammar of whatever language i am translating to. "he says, she says, they say, we say."
