OK. I'm 43, almost 44 and remember this like it was this morning. Might help to tell you I have Asperger's Syndrome.
When I was 10 my Dad took me to the local sports oval. Took me out on the cricket pitch and told me he lived his proudest moment there.
He made a100 runs on that pitch in a GF and considered himself to be a bowler. We went home and he showed me the trophy he'd won and told me it was his favourite. I pretty much knew what was happening.
I told a mates parents I thought my Dad was going to kill himself that week but they didn't do anything.
Anyway. I've never been a good sleeper so I was lying in bed awake one night when I herd my Dad come home. He came in the front door and went straight to his gun cupboard. Then he walked down to the lounge room and told Mum he was going to kill himself.
I got up out of Bed and asked him not to. Mum had an Instant breakdown. I ran to my Sisters room (A yr older) together up but she didn't believe me.
I went back to the lounge and asked him again to stay home. He just gave me the "you're the man of the house now, you need to look after your mum and sister". Told me he can't go on and left the house.
I told Mum to call the Cops and ran down to the Gun cupboard, grabbed all the guns and hid them outside in a bush. Went back in and told Mum to call the Cops again. Then ran over the rd to get my mates Dad (It was around midnight). His Dad didn't believe me so I ran back home, went Inside and Mum hadn't even moved. Total basket case!
I called the Cops, told them where to go, jumped on my push bike and headed to the Oval. Was pitch Black. I was hiding behind a tree and he shot himself. I walked out to the Cricket Pitch and started picking up his teeth. I can't say why I did that but still have his teeth.
Got on my bike and went home. Mum still hadn't moved. Sister came to the realisation I wasn't lying by that time. We just sat there and waited for the Cops to come.
The Cops finally turned up. told us it wasn't good and then asked me to make them a Coffee. They called a Dr for Mum and I went to bed.
I remember going down to Mums room and seeing the Dr Inject her with something. I went back to bed and was having a sook, the same Cop who asked for the Coffee came in and told me to be quiet because I was upsetting my Mum. Had Issues with the Cops ever since, even though It's all I ever wanted to be myself.
I started self medicating with Pot when I was 12. Been smoking every day of my life since. Been an athletic person and being Involved in so many different sports that was actually a hard choice. I was very Anti smoking before hand. I attempted suicide myself at 12 before starting to smoke. I hung myself. I attribute a big part of my survival to Pot
So. A lot more has happened since then but that's way too long of story. I'd have to write a book. I started writing about it but there's just too much.
Was talking about what happened a while ago on a forum and a bloke (total stranger) sent me a really nice PM titled SuperMan. I didn't really think about it much at the time but after a while, playing on my mind I started thinking about it. That bloke is actually the Only person ever to acknowledge my, for lack of a better word, battle.
Anyway. It started me thinking that maybe my story could be of use to others so here I am. Any questions, just fire away.
