General Hubby Seeing A Man Who Is Not There And Hearing Voices

H told me this morning that when he first started seeing his therapist last year, he saw a man peaking around a corner at him. He told the therapist and his T suggested the man was real. A month ago (maybe), he saw the same man, wearing the same clothes, looking at him from around a corner (in the same way). H said he looked everywhere for this man (but the man had no where to go from where he saw him). No one was there. So now he is certain the man is from his imagination. He also mentioned that he has been hearing voices, but unfortunately, he didn't have time to explain this to me, as he had to go to work.

Has anyone experienced this? could this be meds?

This happened to a relative of mine as a side effect of meds. Sounds like something the prescribing psychiatrist needs to hear about.

Hi, some meds cause hallucinations. I do not know about voices though. He needs to see a gp to find out if it is anything physical too. My husband has parkinsons and lewy body dementia. He was hallucinating really bad on his parkinsons meds, so he can not take anything for the parkinsons. We were fighting about his hallucinations. He was getting delusions as well. He is doing so much better now. I hope you find a real solution to what is going on. I agree with Erica, he needs to see a psychiatrist too. My husband sees one besides his regular doctor. This is going to sound really daft - but in the very beginning, Husband used to see a black cat. I honestly did not believe it to begin with - and still have my doubts!!! But he swore blind that he would see it walk past him in the street, it would walk across the living room at home - he even saw it abroad. He mentioned it to his Therapist and she didn't seem overly surprised - not sure why.

Could the hearing voices be some sort of a flashback? Another thing that Husband had - also in the beginning - was people accusing him of not being able to save them (Combat PTSD) could it be something similar?

thanks everyone. this is very helpful. Mentioned to H what you have all said about it, but no response. Hard to say if he was just not in a place to think about it or he didn't hear me. I'll bring it up again some other time. Still haven't heard more about the voices.

Another question, which is kind of off topic. H had been twitching lots. I mentioned it to the Dr and he said it could be meds (although there haven't been any changed recently) or maybe fatigue. Fatigue makes sense but H is at the point now where the twitching is keeping him awake. Could it be something else? Luckily I see the Dr a lot so I get to ask him these questions. But sometimes I find he doesn't look into things if he doesn't have the answer...

toria, the voices your husband would hear makes sense to me. I do wonder if H's voices have something to do with the past.

Hi Mrs T - Husband doesn't twitch so much as vibrate... sitting on the sofa he constantly taps his foot but to the point where the whole sofa will rock and it can actually make me feel queasy if it goes on!

On one occassion when we went for a Tribunal there was a man in the waiting area with me who really did twitch - we were talking and he only twitched when there was a lull in the conversation. He twitched so hard once that he reared back and smacked his head on the wall - needless to say my small talk reached a whole new level :oops: but it obviously calmed him down.

I think the phrase "the past coming back to haunt you" can have an entirely new meaning in these terms x

Toria and Mrs. T,

First of all- the voices might be auditory flashbacks- which is pretty normal for PTSD sufferers- he could be in denial that it's a flashback. When I first got diagnosed I had an auditory flashback and thought I was going crazy and hearing voices.

Second of all, with the twitches- that could be part of a flashback too, I will flinch/wince when I get flashbacks sometimes, and I shake an awful lot during my flashbacks, it looks like I'm shivering in freezing weather. It could be an effect of the medication as well, or it could be something else. Best to get your husband's doctor and psychiatrist involved to figure out whether it's psychological or physical.

I hope they are both okay, and don't forget to take care of yourselves too! :D

wow, I hope the twitching doesn't continue much longer, I know it really bothers him. H shakes his foot (vibrates :)) a lot as well! I kind of feel stressed when he does because he does it more when he can't relax. If I knew it was only a habit, I don't think it would stress me so much. He was saying that he doesn't twitch when he's doing something. When he tries to relax, then he will start twitching. sounds similar, in a way, to this man you described...

This reminds me of my hubby. He told me and swore to me that he saw something that is quiet unrealistic. I trust him but I still cannot believe that. He often tells me things that are unrealistic. He is very paranoid and I don't know what to do to calm him down.

I don't see things, at least I don't think so, but I hear voices in my head I know it's not really there but I hear them. They are usually voices of women shouting or crying like they are being tortured and the voice is coming from a distance like from back of my head, but I can hear it. I don't know what are these voices though.

wow, I had no idea it is common to see things...

I used to hear voices when I was in highschool. Didn't bother me much at the time. All H has said about his is that they are clear. I asked him this because the voices I used to hear weren't too clear. ie For the most part, I knew it was in my head.
