I Feel Like A Burden On Myself Now...

Ask her about DBT, Jess. It's hard work but I really believe it would help you a great deal. The kind of self-harmful thinking you have doesn't really just go away on its own (I'm not saying that you expect it to, just pointing out how tough it is), and DBT is a very effective way to address it - especially for people who get emotionally overwhelmed. CBT is just as good, but won't help as much with the emotional flooding.

@J_trustno1, make sure that omega 3 is not oxidized, or it will do you more harm than good. You might be better off taking krill oil--it is high in bio available omega 3, and the compound that gives it it's dark red color prevents oxidization. Also, it is the ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 that is important, ergo you have to cut out the omega 6 fats from your diet. You need to get the ratio down to 1:1 ideally. If you're like most people, you consume an insane amount of omega 6 from the vegetable oils that are in practically all pre-prepared foods including restaurant fair.

It is my belief that PMS and PMDD are inflammatory conditions caused by prostaglandins and other inflammatory hormones the body secretes during the premenstrual phase. You have to lower your body's over all inflammation level all through the month, and you should be surprised at the reduction in symptoms.

Did you know people in New Zealand have the highest rates of depression and the lowest rate of fish consumption? Try to up your consumption of wild salmon and other high omega 3 fish.

(Caveat: I am not a medical professional.)

Thanks @joeylittle, I will ask her about DBT when I see her next week. Yes, you are right. For me most these thoughts come from my feelings and this CBT stuff isn't that helpful. I have tried it but it hasn't worked for me. I mean how can you think of happy thoughts when your emotions are all crap?

@Dana1010 , Thanks for helping. I am taking Blackmores optimal health omega-3. I don't eat fish because I was a vegetarian since childhood :( (sigh!). I tried it once but hated the smell and taste. The only thing I eat is chicken breast which is couple of times a week. I am mostly a vegetarian. I have just emailed my psychiatrist about the supplements and told him how my GP has increased my antidepressant dose today. I've asked him about omega-6 and progesterone because my progesterone levels are lower in the luteal phase (i.e. after ovulation) and it should be the opposite. I don't know if he'll reply to me or not but at least I have tried and done my part. This entire PMDD thing is driving me nuts. I am not in control of my own body.

Well, all I can say is you may want to try it for a change and see if it makes a difference. I'm not qualified to say that omega 3 supplement is no good, but it looks like a highly concentrated and purified one, which means it's been tampered with and possibly heated. Those things can lead to oxidation. I recommend krill oil or cold pressed salmon oil.

P.S. if you're taking omega 3, you're consuming fish anyway. And it's practically impossible to get the long chain omega 3's from any other source.

@joeylittle  Nice suggestion from you. I am hopeful about DBT for Jess. So glad to know there is workbook about it,too. I am still moved to see this all, I had that question why it (self harmful thoughts) is not going away if Jess has started therapy, meds and other good things. Now this DBT suggestion sounds very helpful.

@Dana1010 That is great advice for mood and anxiety, Vitamin D too. I personally use straight up axtazanthin (sp?) Which is the compound you are talking about. It is an incredible anti-inflammatory on its own. I just wish I could afford a steady supply of it. For PMDD I would try 12mgs for 3-4 days (when symptoms are highest) in a row.

Have you looked into food sensitivities? I think that it is a huge area that can cause problems with our health including both physical and mental reactions. Of course doctors just want to medicate us for this or medicate us for that, as they know that more people are willing to take a pill than make lifestyle changes. None ever mentioned food issues being a possible cause for a WIDE range of my issues (rooted in hormonal imbalance, showing all sorts of seemingly unrelated symptoms such as anxiety, horrible skin reactions, muscular pain...) Not many doctors work in this area, as you need to have a blood test done which can determine what you're sensitive to. I've opted to go the detox route. Its not as perfect but its worlds better than where I was. I hope you feel better!

Reading you post just make me mad. Why? Because it was like a "deja vu". I can understand that depression is a condition and everybody has those states of feelings from time to time. But it is impossible to understand why for some of us this is a way of living. No, I'm not saying that depression is not a disease and no treatment is needed. But,do we really want to change?
You’re not depressed. You’re selfish.

My Conclusion:

- You can lie everybody .... but you will never find the perfect lie for yourself.
- Plan / Start / Fail - keep your mind busy ( if you do not want to gain money - you can make a non profit organization - that way your selfish part will disappear)
- Read Books
- Make a life plan for yourself - with knowledge comes that state of mind where you can find your inner peace.
- Make commitments
- Make .......

Take action. Things you regret the most are the things you’ve never done.

Believe in Yourself

@mzander I am appalled by you calling someone selfish. I am sorry, but I think you will find here that the majority of people here are anything but selfish. We are all struggling with our own crap, yet still do our best to support each other.

You may have a valid point but it was lost in the pointing fingers and blame.
