I feel like i failed, cannot tolerate dbt

DBT was initially pretty much exclusively used for people with BPD. I think that as it becomes more widely used for a much broader range of mental illness, the formats that it is delivered in will inevitably become more flexible.


I'm sorry that you were put in the position where you were required to justify note-taking, because that seems pretty unnecessary and even counter-productive.

Certainly even without the traditonal delivery format, DBT has a lot to offer with the skills that it teaches so if you're finding the vids more helpful, then stick with it:)
 
I don't know a lot about DBT - I just started it - but one of the things I feel pretty strongly about generally is that therapies that aren't flexible are really not in the clients' best interest. My opinion only. My therapist and I have taken the best aspects of a number of different therapies and I also incorporate creative work and alternative medical treatments to maintain functionality. I have recently started DBT but will be working through it with him in individual therapy and with a workbook. No way would I even consider a group. I can't function in a group, for a variety of reasons. What I've worked on so far in DBT I like and have benefited from already so far.

Whatever you decide, I hope you will do what you feel is best and safest for you.
 
DBT was assistive to me even though I'm am a co-occurring behaviors PTSD and SUDS. Tools aren't necessarily immediately helpful or assistive... they are there when I can bump my base mindset/mental state if/when I need them.

I trended to reframe and revisit things that weren't readily assistive to "at this time" rather than discount them. Good decision on my part cuz I'm using a little bit of dang near everything. REBT/CBT/DBT/ACT
