Hi I am in a similar position as a supporter except for self medicating. Me and my gf were living together then she moved out as she needed time and space. I find it hard not to get that balance of being too much, people tell me to walk away but I can't I'm very much in love and I will not walk away because the road gets bumpy. I know it's a bumpy road but you just have to hold on tight.
I don't think there is any help for us. Violence is possible followed by deep regret. We do not have this condition it has us.
Glad you're here and welcome. I can related in that it's a very different experience helping others in their recovery than when we are experiencing a loved one who is suffering. The angle at which we offer support varies in that we can't be their therapist though we can provide emotional support. The thing I've struggled with in dating individuals who either haven't acknowledged their trauma or haven't been open to treatment is that it takes twice the amount of energy when we are giving of ourselves professionally and in a personal relationship. I'm a huge proponent of self care though we only have so much energy to go around. I'm glad to hear that your boyfriend isn't mistreating you in other ways. Understand that his distancing himself isn't about you and let him know you're there if he needs you.
