I Think I Need Less Medication

Ive drastically changed my diet(and exercise) over the past few months, added the B-complex and magnesium the psychiatrist suggested. And now I have an issue with my Prazosin! It's a 5mg does and as of late I'm noticing that I'm super foggy in the morning and back to being really dizzy. Like when I first started the dosing and my body was adjusting. I had taken 6mg...but it was too much and this is how I felt at the too high dose.

The fog and dizzy is lasting a hours after I wake up and it's hard to get my bearings. It didn't used to do this.

Could the change in diet and such be causing my body to not need as much?

The B complex and magnesium are in addition to DRASTIC diet changes. Very drastic! I send my psychiatrist an email, and I see her Friday. I used to wake up feeling okay, and now I feel like I did when I was getting used to the Prazosin...almost drugged feeling.

Yes, ask your doc, Panda. I used to take Prazosin, now I take Clonidine, same kind of bp med for nightmares. Diet changes and adding vitamins could make a difference. It's best to check it out. Best wishes!

I hope you hear back from your psych soon. Feeling drugged is definitely not desirable and not the point of taking Prazosin. Maybe just for tonight you could try half a tablet?

I know you'd then run the risk of nightmares, but maybe not, and maybe you'd feel less drugged in the morning? Just an idea, I don't think there's anything wrong with us trying to cut down a bit on something if it's causing us trouble until we hear back from our docs. Weekends suck.

It's probably not the vit B.- Magnesium can cause dizziness and sweating when you get too much. It's an electrolyte, so it can make you feel weird in too high of a dose. Ironically the symptom of vit B and magnesium deficiency is also dizziness, light headed feeling and sweating. The too high dose, or beginning dose of prazosin is the same also. Exercise can alter your brain chemistry for the better very quickly ( thats good ! ) which may mean you really need less prazosin. You need to ask your doctor asap. If you cant get in really soon, I'd suggest getting rid of just the magnesium until you talk to him.

I dont know, ive taken both and dont see it as drastic but maybe. If it happened right after than can you cut them out til you hear from your doc? Or like what @hodge is saying, take half?

Too high magnesium can cause it. I found that out the hard way. Maybe you started too high?

I have Clonidine in my pain pump for neuropathy and its helped the nightmares a ton, stopped the walking in my sleep and hurting myself in my sleep and didnt drop my BP which is on the low side due to pain meds.

But for the night can you cut something out?

Panda - I just had a thought after leaving the forum here for a while. When you say drastic diet, which I didnt ask about, if you mean an extreme low carb diet, or no carb diet like Atkins, then the problem is with your kidney function, also the magnesium creating electrolyte imbalance ( imbalance does not always mean deficient ! ) then you're on a slippery slope health wise with all of this. If thats the case, get rid of the magnesium. The B was to make up for lack of whole grains I'd guess if you're on Atkins, thats fine. Tons of water drinking and tell your doc what you're doing. That nurse thing comes back to me in flashbacks too!

I agree-------it may be time for a dose change.

I'm now super low fat for the time being and it's affecting everything! (Doctor mandated so please no discussion about how this is bad for me.) My body is going haywire!

I had trouble with some of my meds when going super-low-carb recently. If that's the diet change, I can second @coco9 on make sure you drink large amounts of water, and that you are getting enough salt.

Can you alter your bedtime so you are taking it earlier? Or, see if you can get off of it - it doesn't require an extended taper, and if you miss it you can put it back.

You guys are smart, this is why I ask questions. And I often forget things until someone ask a great question. Thank you!

@joeylittle @coco9 @hodge .....

I've drastically cut sugar and processed carbs, really going away from all gluten as possible and trying not to sub gluten free foods(because they're often just as processed and have less value like other gluten counter parts). The lack of sugar is killing me......

It could be lack of electrolytes, I normally use an electrolyte mix from a company called isagenix, but I ran out for over week ago and was waiting for it to be shipped. The Prazosin seems to cause a dried out/ sinus thing feeling and that's why I started taking the mix in the first place! I had just run out and didn't make the connection!!!! I had it last night after my walk and before bed w/the Prasozin. I haven't had it in over a week. Today, I woke up less groggy and dried out/dizzy :). Didn't realize how helpful it was.

The magnesium is new and the amount is low, to much causes diarrhea. It's was added as a calming option and the psychiatrist wanted me to try it. I don't think the Bs are an issue as I've added them for a few months now. Not to worried about anything major wrong, she'll get back to me soon enough.
