If You Could Change / Want One Thing On The Forum?

I like Springers idea of a cross over thread, and the emoticons idea too...nice!

I think a thread for physical symptoms of stress would be good. You have a great post on this but I had to ask for a link to find it.
Why not create your own thread then you can be specific to your needs. There are a lot of articles on the Wiki search in the Forum also. Here is a link. [DLMURL]https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/wiki/index/[/DLMURL] I wish you success in your journey of healing. Hugs if you accept them, Whitney

Whitney thanks for all your input. At this stage Anthony is collecting ideas, like brain-storming, where no answer is wrong.

Please leave responding to members ideas in this thread to Anthony if he so wishes.

I appreciate you are well intentioned however software changes so some things previously unchangeable may now have altered. More importantly the question was what members would like or want to change if they could, to one thing, with no purpose on correcting them at this stage.

Thanks

Whitney, I'm not sure why you flagged Springer, as this is the appropriate place to ask for such a cross between supporters and sufferers, is it not?. My take is that a specific forum where one "side" (haha) questions the other is what Springer is asking for. Yes, we can all visit all forums (except the private ones), but for the most part, supporters stay in the supporter groups, and same with sufferers. I think that a specific place to ask the other side might be helpful as we (as sufferers) often get stuck in our own little worlds and its hard to see a carer's view, and vice versa.

There will be an expansion in forum categories in the future, though not a cross-over forum, as supporters can ask questions in PTSD forums, and vice versa, providing either party does just that, being to ask a perspective, not go into an area and start arguing or disagreeing on threads due to points of view.

This has been thought of and raised in prior years, tried even, and the end result was both sides bitching and fighting, which was counter productive.

As a result, it was decided that both sides have their own areas, with the other only going into them to ask questions / clarify points, etc, and NOT give general advice or such... unless playing extremely nice and not being argumentative with the other side.

The ability to filter the news feed. Like lets say I only wanted to see the posts from one or two people I'm following at that time, it'd be nice to filter out the others.
Unfortunately, that is part of the core software. You can view those you follow from your account page: [DLMURL]https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/account/news-feed[/DLMURL]

Or all recent activity from: [DLMURL]https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/recent-activity/[/DLMURL]

Unfortunately, a filter for news feed is not near impossible, as it grabs content based on knowns, ie. who you follow or everyone.

Every user already has a current feed viewable from their profile, being the posting tab. That is how you view specific users current posting history.

Personally speaking: the "previous names" tab removed (since some (lots?) of us choose our real name or part of it first and then change it later, I think it would be good to have the old one out for good).
That tab could only be seen by you and staff, though agreed, there is no use for it even though it is not publicly accessible, or to other members... removed.

Answered above already.

I, nor staff, control such threads. Such threads can be created by any member. A bookmark function is present for members to find, then bookmark content, for later / often review.

...search function improvement....can this be improved with most recent thread, and popular thread idicators....or attach key words to thread posts for easy searching - dunno, just an approved search function would be nice....I feel I annoy people because I can't find stuff easily in search....
Answered above.

More emoticons. Like one for hugs. one for fear, one for anxiety...that sort of thing. x:tup:
I will review this for static emoticons, however; I will not be installing any type of animated emoticon upon this site. I find them to be distracting and very annoying when users load pages with emoticons jumping, rolling and moving all over the place. I do not want emoticons to be an issue for staff to edit... hence my reluctance on this issue.

I will review some other static ones for possible inclusion.

Maybe the software will have an IM function again. That is the one thing I miss since the upgrade. But the rest of it is fantastic!
Let me sit on that one. IM is system intensive typically. I do have an IM function with the chat that can be incorporated into the site for quick IM'img / AV IM accessibility... though I am also thinking how viable this would be to have upgraded to the current level and reinstalled, considering the cost versus site mail feature that is coming that allows text / video / audio internal site mail to be sent between users, just like email, except AV.
