I'm in constant fight or flight response. How do I get a hold of myself? Its causing nausea and sleep deprivation. My dreams are intense and I sleep maybe 4 to 5 hours a night. I wake up with butterflies all over my body. My cortisol runs all the way out each day. I am hyper aware and everything is super bright. I'm in a daze half the time. When I try to go back to sleep my body sends a sharp butterfly sensation through my system which jerks me awake. As if its worried and doesn't want me to go to sleep. I'm irritable and scared. Couple of questions...

Since I posted this in another forum that has little to no activity I have this result..

3 months later and I am still dealing with this. My head is still stuck. It feels like I have something stuck between my eyes that is pulling down on my brain. It's like severe tension that is pulling on the top of my upper right gum line, through the right sinus area (perhaps behind it), ending up on the right top to middle of my head. I had sinus surgery and it still didn't relieve it. I am on Remeron which helps but doesn't completely get rid of it. Has anyone ever heard of the the head pain or experienced anything that has a tightening effect in the forehead area? It causes severe head pressure. If it wasn't there my issue wouldn't be near as bad.

Has anyone had any similar symptoms?
Any recommendations on how to manage this..

Thanks for the response. I have seen a professional. They gave me remeron and Kolonopin. I'm mostly curious about the physical symptoms. My head is bad shape. In addition to the head pressure I feel a pretty bad pain on the side of my head. Both sides. Like it clinched. This all from an intense fight or flight situation in which I froze. So the energy wasn't properly released. Does anyone have symptoms like this? What have they done to remove it?

Anxiety and Ptsd. I have asked a bunch of doctors and homeopathic medicine docs and they can't seem to pin point it. Still trying to find that other person in the world who has experienced a similar symptom or perhaps knows exactly what I am talking about. So frustrating. 2 neurologists, 2 Ent's, 3 GP's, 3 Chiropractors, 1 psych. They see the hypervigilance, startle reflex and anxiety. I mention the physical stuff and they have nothing. They thought it was from deviation in the septum, sinus disease and a polup. Removed and fixed and still there after surgery. All I want is someone to tell me they had a similar situation occur as an after affect of prolonged freeze during a fight or flight response. So I can atleast compare notes. It feels like one half of my face is stuck in a tention type of grip.

Hi cdg,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum! :)

In regard to symptoms, I can relate to your butterfly sensation upon waking only I use the analogy of a low level current of electricity. I feel charged up and not relax and rested. As far as headaches, there are times my head felt it was being crushed in a vice. This happens when adrenaline is pumping through my body and it has been diagnosed as a cluster headache, as the pain is located primarily in my forehead.

Headaches and diagnosis and treatment are all pretty subjective. One area I had checked was my cortisol levels and I just don't produce it any more and my adrenal glands just pump pure adrenaline into my bloodstream. With that knowledge and knowing that I have PTSD, I have had to radically change my life style. Proper diet, hydration, exercise, yoga, reduction of caffeine, enough sleep, stress reduction, and using tools like mindfulness have really helped me to manage the symptoms.

Take your time and search the various posts within this forum. I am sure you will find information here that will help you.

Wishing you the best.

Debbie

Is your pain at all related to your jaw or is it all further up in your head?

Welcome.

Edited to add... BBR said you should seek professional help because the original title of your post said you think you have PTSD (as in you're not diagnosed). Even if you've already seen one, you need to see another as we can't diagnose you. The diagnosis is important because otherwise you're just throwing darts in the dark.

Hey I just registered to answer. I have the exact same issue as the OP. I'm constantly on the edge, I feel a lot of pressure in my head, my neck is under tension all the time too, and I feel dizzy.

I don't know if I have PTSD, all this happened to me after a huge mental breakdown 1 year ago, I suffered from depersonalisation and panic attacks and know the remaining symptom is this constant pressure like if my head could blow up at any time. I Have an Eustachian tube issue too, I don't know if it's related. However, whenever I go to the doc he always tell me it's due to the anxiety, and he won't check anything else.

Sorry if my English is bad, I hope you will understand. I hope we will find a solution.

I do feel some clinched feeling in the right side of my jaw. I also have nerve pain coming from the top left part of my spine facing it. It feels sort of hot burning in the mornings. I appreciate the replies. They are very helpful.
