Is Pride Acceptable?

I think it's awesome to have a sense of pride! I'm finally learning that I can be proud of my accomplishments. And it feels pretty darned good!

Yes, pride is one of the 7 deadly sins; however this is really talking about being overly proud.

In the end, as with many things in life, it's about balance. There is indeed such a thing as a heathy amount of pride.

I circumvent semantics that have been tainted, just easier for me to roll that way.

Rather than pride, if that were a tainted word, I would go with "dignity" as in the "bearing, conduct, or speech indicative of self respect or appreciation of the formality or gravity of an occasion or situation" definition.

In context what that might look like is having a dignified attitude about your strengths, achievements and so on, having a full amount of respect and appreciation for your positive qualities, etc.

I agree that being over prideful is being obnoxious and you are not that way at all.

I hope for the day when you can begin to accept compliments to you. I think that you being in therapy and in hospital dealing with your issues and not being able to self harm is wonderful.

I hope the day comes soon when you begin to question the false lies and false beliefs trained into you.

I think this was a very good thing to talk about it sure has enlightened me.

I think being overly full of pride is wrong and comes off as conceit.

I like what everyone has said and I especially like the idea of cultivating dignity. I try hard to be a dignified man, confident in my abilities without over-valuing myself....sometimes it is like a balancing act, but I am getting better at allowing myself to accept compliments gracefully.

Different view, here. If you're good at something? Or not even good at it but darned like doing it? Hell yeah you have a right to be proud of it and proud of yourself.

All of that 'over-valuing' self is nonsense to keep people in line & established hierarchies unchangeable, and that isn't a good thing to do to people.

@Cashew.. I totally get what you are saying. For me, it is being around people that are arrogant, which always implies insecurity to me, or totally 'unconscious people'...I have to get away from that kind of energy. But people that made an airplane model or drew a picture and are proud of their work... well hell ya, I'm PROUD for them.....I am proud of some of my art work... so I totally understand.
