Sufferer Thank You for accepting me.

My name is Pete I have had “mental illness” for years. I was diagnosed correctly after many years of denial, frustration and persecution from both state and local government. To make this easier to understand I am a hunter and own property in Upstate NY where there are no town police. The closest State Trooper Barracks are 25 miles away. There are drug addicts and others who are not law abiding citizens locally.
I am a physically disabled retired RN/Flight Nurse.

I grew up in a medium size middle class town. My father started the first “in school” Police education and safety program. Unfortunately his title was “Officer Friendly” he was also the Director of the PAL. He was a great man who did a lot for the community. He was a man’s, man who smoked, drank frequently (especially to “resolve stressors” but was never what would be considered back then, today I am not so sure. There were 3 boys close in age we were always busy but I was always “hyper” his nick name for me was “the fly” because my attention span/focus was short, like the fly you swat at that returns to the same spot a few seconds later.
Unfortunately my father’s title “officer friendly” was low hanging fruit for students and teachers alike to haze my brothers and I. My parents were responsible financially, unfortunately this meant the boys got “hand me down” Duhnams corduroy slacks. Again low hanging fruit for what they now call “bullies” students and teachers alike.
We eventually cried, kicked and screamed enough to get “tough skin” jeans but by then our emotional weaknesses were well known and exploited.
I was the oldest. Starting in 1st grade my “babysitter” was getting dropped off at the PAL boxing gym as Dad had PAL obligations and Mom was a secretary who worked until 6.
I learned what I believed was “manhood” from my Father, other cops, the boxing gym and the two neighbors (one an extremely tough block plant manager and the other a beer truck driver).
I ended up in trouble frequently both for defending my younger brother’s and frankly because I fit in better with the less well off financially “bad kid” group. All I had to do was get in trouble. Sometimes I was accepted, other times I was hazed or baited into fighting as I was smaller when I was young but my “babysitters” at the gym taught me enough to hold my own with kids my age. So their older brother’s would bait me.
Anyway it was different back then. If you were a cops kid and you got in trouble frequently as I did. If the cops came you got an ass beating or punch in the mouth thrown in the car brought home for a second ass kicking from Dad or a wooden spoon whack or 10 from Mom.
There was no ADHD there were no emotional support talks. If your brother is getting beat up you defended him, if you cried you got sent to your room or told men don’t cry. It was definitely not acceptable to have ANY issues related to MH.
If a child has obvious mental health or cognitive issues they were segregated and labeled as low hanging fruit to be hazed.

MENTAL HEALTH WEAKNESS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Loosing a or playing poorly at a soccer game was grounds to be told “get your head out of your ass” screams and frequently a grounding

In my opinion based on my experiences and financial position in regards to fees for firearms and permits.
The State of New Jersey is NO DIFFERENT then then those who hazed the “Special class kids or “rode the short bus”!

In fact Governor Murphy factually jeopardizes My family’s and your family’s safety by punishing and unconstitutionally stripping rights.

Seriously NOBODY chooses to let the government prejudiciously, no different then a bigot who does not know those he hates personally, punish and/or confine them against thier will!!!!

FACTUALLY if you have any mental health disorder, even if it’s diagnosed by a quack from a third world medical school who has absolutely EVERY reason to label even those without MH illnesses because of liability. I was an ER nurse I witnessed people being labeled and confined against their will because a spouse or coworker exaggerated or embellished something someone said stupidly.
They were treated no differently then any socialist country treats their citizens and stripped of constitutional rights.
Which brings me back to YEARS AND YEARS OF DENIAL OF ISSUES AND YEARS OF MISDIAGNOSIS BECAUSE OF TBE RISK OF ANYTHING YOU SAY BEING TAKEN WRONG LEADING TO YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS BEING TAKEN AWAY BY THE GOVERNMENT!
Do not get me wrong. I am NOT paranoid. The current socialist Governor signed a socialist law - RETROACTIVELY PUNISHING CITIZENS BY STRIPPING THEIR RIGHTS- IF THEY
EVER were VOLUNTARILY OR INVOLUNTARILY COMMITTED TO ANY MENTAL HOSPITAL.
YOUR RIGHT TO A CONSTITUTIONALLY GUARANTEED LEGAL TRIAL IS NOT RECOGNIZED BY THIS ADMINISTRATION DESPITE BEING AT IDDS WITH THE SUPREME COURT!

So obviously you’re aware I personally used to just deal with my symptoms and rely on my faith and identity as a outdoorsman. I never was an alcoholic, drug used or suffered depression. Thankfully I had friends I hunted and fished with.

Unfortunately I had a spinal injection of Steroids in my spine in 2008. I had an adverse reaction causing a transient manic episode. I was sent to a crisis center misdiagnosed and denied my rights.
It cost $10k to get them back.

I was misdiagnosed by the psychiatrist I had to follow up with. Probably because of my limited participation but the trend was Bipolar. I knew I was not bipolar.

This entire experience is literally a significant factor in my PTSD!!!

To non hunters or firearm owners. Think of what you feel is your identity what you enjoy doing with your children and where you teach them about life.

Now imagine some Socialist (by definition in regard to citizen rights) with a clear and obvious prejudice against ANYONE AND EVERYONE with ANY MENTAL ILLNESS taking YOUR IDENTITY, YOUR TIME WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND YOUR ABILITY TO DEFEND YOURSELF WHEN POLICE ARE VERY FAR AWAY!!!

Thanks for reading this.

I will continue tomorrow. I worked myself up enough for today. I am going for a walk.

Respectfully
Thank you for accepting me!
Pete

Hello Pete,

Welcome to myptsd.com. Thank you for sharing your story with us. It's clear you've been through a lot, and I appreciate your honesty and the courage it takes to express your experiences and feelings. You’re in a community where understanding and compassion are at the forefront, and you're not alone here.

Your journey has been complex, and how you've navigated through such a challenging environment speaks to your resilience. It's understandable to feel frustrated with systems that feel unjust or dismissive, especially when you've faced so much misunderstanding regarding mental health.

Many people in this community have experienced similar feelings of having their identity or rights misunderstood or unfairly challenged. I hope connecting here can offer you some solace and perhaps new perspectives on coping and healing. Sharing with others who have been through similar experiences can be incredibly validating.

I encourage you to explore the different forums available on myptsd.com, where you can connect with others who may share similar experiences or insights related to PTSD and CPTSD. It’s a space where you can find support and understanding without judgment.

If you find yourself needing more support, seeking professional help can also be an important step in navigating the effects of PTSD. Remember, reaching out is an act of strength, not weakness.

Thank you for being here and sharing your story. We’re glad to have you in this community.

Take care and be gentle with yourself,
Riley

Being male and navigating mental illness/trauma/disability has unique challenges, I’ve found, and I’m sure it gets harder the further back you go.
Takes courage to share, I commend it, and the walk.

I resonate with some of what you’ve shared, growing up without a much needed autism and ADHD diagnosis, and untreated trauma… got given the benefit of the doubt very rarely by other kids, teachers, et cetera. You become easy-pickings, unfortunately. It’s a deeply unfair system across the board.
And medical maltreatment is probably one of the most triggering things, for me. Not sure if you relate to the mindset that everything to do with them is a fight, but I’ll put it here in case you do.

I would guess you know the experience of all these cumulative voices from family, peers, and others, still giving you the beat-down internally. The brain adopting their beliefs to superimpose onto yourself. Doesn't help the journey towards acceptance and self-compassion.
I think it’s something that’s continuously worked at, but I’m happy to see you’ve come enough a way to be here.

hello pete. welcome to the forum. sorry for what brings you here but glad you are here.

i am a child sex trafficking survivor. back in the 60's when i was being trafficked my condition would have been summarized as one of those "bad kids" who kept "getting you into trouble." here in the 21st century it is far easier to debate who was getting whom into trouble, but it still isn't an easy debate. the blame game goes on forever.

there were quite allot of "better off" kids who ran the circles i grew up in. we called them, "silver platter refugees." kids whose "better" life had some serious flaws. money is more effective in hiding child abuse than preventing it.

dunno if this has anything to do with your case, or not. just sharing while i welcome you aboard. i hope you find stabilizing companionship here.
