General It's Up To The Sufferer - Points For Carers

I just wanted to re-iterate what I so often re-write in this section.

  • If a Sufferer does not take responsibility for their illness there is nothing a Carer can do.
  • If a Sufferer will not take their medication that is their decision and you cannot force them as a Carer. Going on and off medication is just as bad, if not worse, than taking no medication at all.
  • If you love a Sufferer and they do not feel worthy of love there is not much you can do other than make a decision that is best for you.
  • If a Sufferer doesn't want to get better there is absolutely nothing you can do (warranted there are special circumstances but these are general points).
  • If a Sufferer wants to hurt themselves you can lock up medication and them but at the end of the day, if they want to do it bad enough, they will find a way.
  • A Sufferer must process their trauma in order to heal. They can only do that when they are ready to and at their own pace.
  • If a Sufferer says to you that they are not able to be in a relationship that is generally true and no amount of love and putting yourself out there will change anything unless they do. They have to find themselves.
  • A Sufferer is responsible for how they treat you...PTSD or not...FULL STOP.
  • If a Sufferer cannot deal with life and starts isolating from you there is nothing you can do...other than let them be...as they have to work through it as this is generally a sign of overload.
This is all I can think of for now so please feel free to add from your own experience.
