I've Joined An Art Group!

I thought I'd click on this, in the most nosy was possible! Isn't that awful?? Just an artist who likes poking around the art threads... . :) BTW- iris's are TOUGH, look so simple but a pain in the neck- nice job with those! Am NOT 'critiquing', hate that. I've belonged to a bazillion art groups in the past, always managed to escape with a fraction of the ego intact but in flames.... . Am the Lone Artist, no Tonto in sight. :roflmao:

I feel like that Anni (and it is so good to have you and your humour back ;)).

Most of the people in this group are elderly and although their work is very good (better than mine) it is all copying from books and other pictures. No one seems to do anything out of their own imagination or from 'real-life).

I HATED doing those irises!:roflmao:

I do my encaustic (wax) stuff at home as I don't want others copying my work. When I did the demo one of the women wanted to borrow my encaustic text books and take them home! I wouldn't let her and told her I was studying them (which is true) but I also want to sell my work and won't be able too if someone else is pinching all my ideas!

I keep my head down and use it for some peace and quiet away from my lads.

I'd love to see some of your work Anni, perhaps in the 'Get Your Art On' thread.

Ha! Too funny- yes, it can be tough in groups can't it? The last one I joined was nice for awhile, I'm a big sucker for 'nice', then at the end the 'chair' clapped her hands and said 'OK! Now for our critiques!'. Some lovely, sensitive-looking fellow crept to the front of the room, put a painting ( I think a landscape ) on an easle. HOOboy, the next 30 minutes were awful!! His balance sucked, his choice of wash was amatuer, he 'needed' to spend more time on the sketch, blahblahblah. It was a slaughter. It was actually quite a pleasant painting with a peaceful, mono-chromatic winter tone to it, even if it wasn't, thought the idea was to HELP. Wowza. I'm truly truly not being hateful-honest- it's just that I've been at this for awhile and one of my 'things' is that a group of artists is not the fun, frowsy, happy-go-lucky, colorful roomful of folks one would imagine! Boy- assasins in Burkies and organically grown grass sweaters.

Hee- oh I might, think I've posted here somewhere but will dig out some pics soon again. I haven't done anything 'serious' for years. My niche is follky, whimsy, bright 'stuff', both paint and simple mosaic, which sells! :) Went through a phase of adding ornamentals to the painted furniture I do, but since it alarmed hubby with the use of power tools, abandoned that- glass tile days are funny enough! Quite seriously generally have small bandaids on 4 or 5 fingers for a few weeks.

Must get over to the 'Art On' thread- love to browse art here!! I take it yours is there? There seem to be an awful lot of astonishingly gifted photo buffs here, too- always a fascination for me because I just do NOT have 'IT'. Can't take a good shot to save myself despite all the college classes. You either have 'IT' or you don't- hee- I do NOT, hence the fascination.

'OK! Now for our critiques!

That would have horrified me the minute she said that. I truly believe I wouldn't have joined it and snuck out. How horrible that would have been!

I can't wait to see everyone's art. I have an oil painting of a tree, but, because it is has very muted tones, you can hardly see it in a photograph. I also have a water, night picture I did before she died. My husband hangs it at his office. She died the day after I finished it and never got to see it. I go through stages of what I like to do. Not sure I'd ever post them on here though. Maybe if I get up the courage.

The art on here is simply astounding.
