A late welcome.

One of the things that has helped me the most recently is I got a puppy and started training it to be my Service Dog. I've had her about 2 months now. She's just over 4 months old now. She is a Boston Terrier, a smart dog and quick learner.

I'm not going to go into detail about her because I don't want to hijack your thread, but if you have any questions, several of us on the forum have either a fully trained Service Dog, or have one in training. If where you live has a "no pets policy", Service Dogs are exempt from it. "in training" if you want to train your own, you have to check the state laws. Some states recognize "in training" with the same recognition as a fully trained dog, some don't.

She (my dog) has given me a new purpose in an otherwise empty life. Yes I have my wife, but she doesn't depend on me, and I can't try and train her without risking my life. lol

Now what was I doing?

Hey can you send me any info on the service dog stuff. I have really been wanting one as I think it will help me. I called a few places and got nowhere. I have a beagle pup that's about 4 months old and I haven't worked with her at all. She seems hard headed. Lol.

I was going to say something................. but I forgot. ......or did I?!!??

It does get better Doc, even the memory stuff. When you've got a lot on your plate you just can't do it all. It's OK. I use post it notes. My kitchen is shades of yellow and pink. Then I forget where I put what.

Doc,

The last I heard, the VA was trying to wiggle out of providing dogs. If I were you, I'd google the VA and service dogs and see what the latest is on that. Also, the main page for the VA is simply VA.gov. If you could afford one yourself, there are a lot of trained dogs out there but they are not cheap. But after you get one, they're worth their weight in gold.

One of the healthiest choice you could make.

Here's another Doc, I have an old mil buddy, retired E-8, that has worked for this group for years and is very proud they focus on only sending out well-trained dogs:

Doc,
Did a little research, here is one place, I noticed they have a link on their page to apply for a companion. The forum wont let me put in a link (it doesn't trust me yet, spam being cited), but just search Stiggysdogs dot org.
