Sufferer Just Waiting Around To Die

Randomized controlled trials that I have participated in only require that you show up on your appointed dates - they have not required a "home address". IRB approved studies that I conducted when I was still in academic medicine allowed homeless people to participate, we only needed a means of contacting by phone, and that patients followed up with us in the event of side-effects. Reimbursement checks could be picked up at the payroll office, with a copy of the signed protocol in hand, by the patient.

I have been in 21 states in the last few years, and the longest I stayed anywhere was 5 months - to recover from a heart attack and get the problem resolved and get through a surgery and recover enough to move on. I am usually not in one area for more than a couple months. I never found a free clinic although I tried. I called many social service orgs and at best they offered an intake interview several months out. Most told me that I did not qualify due to my color and gender and age. I did find one therapist who was willing to give me a really reduced fee but I could only afford one visit a month and I was only there a little over a month. How do you find such a thing?

What balances that? Occasionally I have been able to be the ears someone needed to hear their troubles. Sometimes I have found the words they needed to get through a bad time. For some reason women who have been raped talk to me, appear to trust me, and find some relief from their trauma. I theorize this is because we share a trauma that has similarities with people exercising brute force to take power away, but I have been too concentrated on their needs to dig into the whys of it all. It occurs to me that when I can get outside myself I have my best times. It's the closest I get to being human and wish it occupied more of my time.
As this little bit of beauty really touched me and moved my heart, I would like to say how much respect I have of you and for your means of staying alive. You call it "pigheaded survival." If that is the name you would like to call it than fine. Whatever you call it, it is absolutely amazing!

SunnyD: Here we have just started into ObamaCare which is a parallel to your system. So far this has meant that my prescription costs have tripled. I've had to drop a couple because I can't afford them. I went back to the "home town" a couple months ago to get my vehicle insurance dealt with and see my GP. I discovered that due to the cutbacks in ObamaCare that one whole clinic had closed and all the remaining doctors are in the other now. The clinic manager had an aneurism and had to be taken 800 miles away for treatment because the local neurosurgeon quit and there has been no replacement. Eight doctors quit or retired rather than take Medicare or deal with the additional burdens of paperwork and government interference between them and patients. My own doctor only works three days a week, but so far has not quit. When I had my heart attack I was in Texas and it took me 5 days to find a doctor who would take Medicare. My ex wife is in a large city with several universities and has waited so far for 8 months for her first interview with a specialist she needs - again no one will take her Medicare. I can't wait to see how bad it gets when the entire program is introduced (after our elections, of course!). It appears that the new medical oath is not Hippocratic but hypocritical and involves drugging and warehousing, or just delaying your treatment until you do the right thing and die.

Traveling has its points. I do meet a lot of people and talk with them. No names. No personal information. No relationships. Just being amiable at arms length. I had to go grocery shopping today and talked with several people. I was polite and nice as were they. No idea who they are or anything about them. It seems society has become wandering strangers living in their own bubbles. I often wonder if I knew one and they knew me if we would be friends. Occasionally I can go and see something interesting, but as a rule it costs too much to go to a beach or a park - it's all been heavily commercialized and restricted. Gotta get that last nickel out of the suckers - I mean tourists.

(BTW: Your spelling is not an issue. You will find that as you write more you will refine such things, make a few less errors, and become more comfortable. I make many errors, have to rely on spell-check, and hope the uncooperative fingers on my right hand don't hit too many wrong keys! It takes a while to write a post like this because I am vain enough to want to try to polish it to where it makes at least a little sense. Everyone I taught and every writer I know finds that this never ends but is a constant maturing of a skill. What is most important is that you can express your thoughts clearly - more than a great many can do!)

Thank you, Nadia. I sometimes get so beat down by my own troubles that I forget that I still have something to offer in my better moments. I guess 25 years of doing little but observing and trying to figure things out must produce something. Besides, they say even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I'm still awake almost three by me.i did try a boring book put laptop off and even tv tonight!!! Shocker!
I was working until 10pm and it takes me ages to wind down.

Am taken my pain meds and supplements that are uk best calcium magnesium and d3. Had my omegia three with glucosamine. The sugar quitting has helped the pain a fatigue

You hit a point, in some of your quote, I actually felt overcome and had a tear at your niceness.

I have cam across many teachers my own dad being a big shot one. I think I asked his for help with homework only once that I can recall and I was dismissed with my jotter being lobbed against the room as no point in me trying because I couldn't do it with out the easier part that i said i couldn't get my head around it to get grip with it before moving on to the next part. It was long division the first part. I cant remember what the next this was I was asking to get learned. Anyways I remember the book getting thrown away and my problem dismissed. also wanted to say i think a travelling life style would be great, on the road :)

I was told to go back to school and tell the maths teacher that i had it on good authority that I would never need to uses this right angle triangle a, b squared equals c squared or pie lol in my life as I planned to do washing and cooking raising a family. The teacher was very nice and let me sleep in the store room for two years. I liked this because I was a child carer of a elderly heart patient (my gran) disabled Aunt. And long time ill mother with cancer. I was too busy looking after loved ones in my family, worry about it. Also in my country nowadays they do not deduct marks for bad spelling in English only in french lessons or internationals languages.

However, when that same cool teacher who also gave me ciggerates at break times had a heart attack in class I was the one to jump into automatic first aid procedures out of all the educated clever kids and undo his neck tie and tell someone to get another teacher in her for phoning an ambulances.

I have looked after many ill and disabled people all my life cooking, getting meds personal care running the shops and making there lives better. I think It was a great career only the shifts have me unable to chill out after a night cause my adrenallin must be pumping. I deal with many emergencies. I also trained as a volunteer counselor and worked there for a few years.

In my work I have came across many many teachers who are now in my care and I am astonished at how nice they can be and have answers to my self proffessed failings that have humbled me and filled my heart with joy. ITS THE PERSON THAT COUNTS. The emotional intellegance. Very few people have touched my heart like you have in your last post Deadmann. You are one of those nice people that do not feel the need to dismiss me but instead treat this failing as respectful. Thank you so much. Emotionally inteliegent Girl 3 and yourself will leave me looking at your accademic's but both of you have included me although i may be at a place where many teachers i have worked for have tried belittling my grammar verbally etc.

I did go to college for three years , two of those part time at night and the work had to be applied to my work. I did very well and could have gone to university. But I liked the job I had and deceided why leave to do something i might not enjoy and be valued at in the same way.

I see Nadia is getting your humor now Pigheaded survial...You sure have a wit with words. may I ask if you were aEnglish teacher or something of that sorts?

But basically all that medcare stuff going on, isnt anything like the nhs, yes we have a few issues of post code lottery where which county you live in can determing if you are able to access funding to certain meds. Drugs babies taken up maternity bed with babies getting weened of drugs and premature births..some ordinary people have to go to Newcastle a 6 hour journey for the first available bed while in labour.
Im luckier than most as I am Scottish and we have our own Parliment in Edinburgh for matters we opt out for. This means all our laws stand anyone over 70 qualifies for a free personally carer. Weather they are fighting fit or not. Our education higher and lower is free (unlike England) and all our prescriptions are free as well. Mabey this will come your way I sure hope so. great chatting to you guys, mabey we should be moved onto a link for chit chat now we have moved from introductions. But i do not know how to do that...

Sorry if I have rabbled a bit tonight. I also took sleeper and diasapan with pain meds only thing left to try is my boring book. laters sunnyD

Getting in to free clinics can take time - there are a lot of people vying for the same clinic spots. So for one who moves quickly on as you do, I can see how that would be an impediment. Getting into a PTSD support group on the other hand shouldn't be hard at all. The PTSD support group in my area is run by a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in PTSD.

Local newspapers often have community activity listings where you might find a support group. Also, check on-line for such a group in your area. There are ministers who have been trained specifically in PTSD support - I checked in to several when I first got my diagnosis because I wanted to find out why God had never answered any of my prayers when I was a child.

My psychiatrist that I have had for 2 years is one of the leading researchers in the field, and I found him by signing up for a study that he was running. I continue to participate in his studies, and we do a considerable portion of the therapy via email or phone since he is in NYC. If you look up clinical trials for PTSD on the internet there is a government website that lists studies throughout the world. There is a ketamine study at Mount Sinai in New York city that might interest you - I don't know how you feel about big cities.

Anyway - I wish you much strength, serenity, and support. Your life is valuable.

I have been informed by management that I am not using this forum properly. I have admitted to being ignorant of all this social media convention and probably am too old to get it figured out. Way too much going on that I do not understand and is apparently disruptive, and all I can do is apologize for my ignorance. Frankly, it is too complex and confusing for me and because I have very limited bandwidth I can't watch videos or spend a lot of time researching or I will lose the only access I have to the outside world. So thank you all for your help and kindness, but this is my last post. Goodbye and good luck with your recovery efforts. DeadMann.

Hi Deadmann

I think every one gets those to begin with. I felt the same way after about 4 things. Do not be put off I had to take my time. Seemed every post I did was incorrect at the start. I am sure you will do fine when you follow the guidelines. There is a help desk for asking questions if you get unsure. Do not be put off

Hiya Deadman,

I have been reading what you wrote and it really hurts me to read this. But before I comment on anything, I would like to make sure that you are still on this forum.

Deadman, I am sure almost everyone has gotten those "warnings". I still get them and sometimes I have no clue why. Takes me a while to figure it out. I think that especially when being new on here, we take those warnings personally, I know I did. That probably has to do with our PTSD. I took it as personally criticism ( a personal attack) and it made me mad at whoever send it (no offense to the admins please) and also at myself for making mistakes. I don't take criticism well and constantly strive to do things perfectly.

Please stay on this forum. I am sure that it will help you a great deal.

A biiiiig hug from Germany (think you can use a hug):)

Hi and Welcome Deadmann, I've learned so much throughout this thread as I've been quietly listening. I'm Sorry I postponed welcoming you any earlier and was just listening for right now.

I too have head trauma/brain injury in addition to having Ptsd and find myself struggling, I just knew I'd not be able to keep up with the conversations so I've sat back, while looking forward to hearing more and more from you.

You'll be missed. I miss you! Please feel free to rejoin us as you're still most welcome here.

I did not plan to return. However, I have something to say that may be helpful since others have mentioned they've had the same trouble. I left because instead of just making it clear what I did wrong (I still do not know what those messages were trying to say exactly), they obfuscated whatever the problem was and went right to telling me how I was going to be kicked off, etc. Management has every right to do what they will, make whatever rules they want, and be as harsh and aggressive as they feel is suitable. It is clear who holds the power and the keys and I have no say in this.

However... It baffles me that on a site where people are by the very nature of PTSD and previous trauma very sensitive to bullying and aggressive behavior, you might want to be a bit less strident or authoritarian. Many of us take that as almost an assault. True, I doubt this is anything like the actual intent, but when you have been scarred, the scabs are thin, you tend to react to such things much sooner that a 'normal' person. I could understand if this was about inappropriate behavior or attempts to do damage, but it's obvious to me that my purpose here had nothing to do with such things and sending confusing notes with less confusing threats seems over the top. I grant my being over-sensitive to such things, but if anyone read what has transpired here my reaction and that of others should be understandable.

In my case, I reacted as expected. I was offended and the message I got was that I was not wanted on this forum. I got warning about things that made no sense to me, posts were deleted or altered. My thin skin was no proof against the threats in those warnings and I can't download videos so to me it was just a matter of time before I was booted permanently. I tend not to be where I believe I am not wanted and so my reaction was to decide to leave. It's one thing to have to lay out personal issues, hear difficult answers, bear with others who are also sensitive and occasionally difficult, and ride the emotional roller coaster dealing with what I actually came for, and another to have to deal with an additional layer of needless and confusing management pressures that do not contribute to the spirit or purpose of this kind of communication.

At the same time I discovered that I could not correct or edit any of my posts. Apparently they get locked down and although I am the author of my posts I have no access to them. This undermines my trust even more as it appears pretty heavy handed and unfriendly. That I can make no correction or edits feels like someone has stolen my thoughts and words and is holding them hostage.

So I will play by the rules. To the point where I feel that getting smacked in the back of the head is tolerable. I would hope that in future if management has something to say they might consider just a polite request rather than threats and confusing policy statements. I will also find out if what I've said is considered to be a legitimate effort to offer constructive criticism or just deleted and I am kicked off. It'll tell me all I need to know and whether I have any place here at all.

If nothing else perhaps after censoring this might be left intact: Thank you for your comments and encouragement. I hope you find the peace and trust that eludes me and that something in what I wrote here has been in some way helpful to even one other person. D. Mann
