OK, the envelope is on it's way! The Postal worker said it SHOULD arrive in 10 days or so. I could have added Certified Mail with a tracking number for another $14 but was told there was no guarantee it would actually be tracked once it left the States. I mentioned that it was my second attempt and he asked if you had tried to look for it at your Post Office.

So, I know that this is supposed to be secret but wondered if you would contact Nicolette for 2 things before you go to your postal station. I, of course, won't post my address here but it's OK with me if she tells you my info. The name on the package is not my forum name and you will see it anyway because it had to be on the customs form. Also, maybe ask her to copy and paste the address she provided to me for you, just in case something was omitted. Those 2 things may help you look for the items.

Kris "C" has his fingers crossed! I will post here when I see that the second envelope has left the States!

I did ask at the post office; they store parcels for only 7 days and they check only for the recipient's name and address so the sender's wouldn't help. Also, what they do is just check every parcel they have waiting so normally nothing can get lost if the 7-day period has not expired.

I am very much hoping for the envelope to get here. And I still think I'll end up with two gifts.

I just filed a complaint with the German Postal Service giving the customs number, that may help. Will let you know if I find out anything about the original package.

Package Update:

Processed through the sorting station in Chigago on 12/8. So that is when it left the States.

Do you have a chimney? Maybe there is confusion trying to get your gifts down a chimney? :)

The envelope hasn't arrived but I received a reply re my complaint... saying they can't give me any info and I should fill in an online form for research on an international level. I have to tell them what "product" you sent. Could you let me know which one of the below is the correct one (if any)? It seems they can only track those below... Thanks very much!

I am thinking that the first one is the closest. Not sure what registered items Packchen is. It was "registered" with a Customs ID but it was not sent as urgent. That was not really an option, I don't think. I did not send insured because I didn't think they could honor a payment for loss out of the United States. Meaning if it was not lost in the US, that they would not pay.

I've sent several packages to England and Australia without an issue. This is the first to Germany.

Päckchen means "small parcel". A small parcel and a bigger parcel (Paket = package) are different, mail-wise. A package (Paket) is always (automatically; higher price) insured. Small parcels (Päckchen) are cheaper but not insured per se.

I'll see if they can do anything.

I sent something to a far-away country myself and it should have gotten there. Just tried to track it tonight and had to read that it was tracked only while in Germany. The lady at the post office had said it would be tracked until it got there. Oh well...

Looking forward very much to receiving your gift! Already bought a little santa "hat" so I can take a proper picture once I have it. :)
