My T, for the last 2 or 3 sessions has mentioned I look into to mysticism and labyrinth's. I am not able to take many anit-depressant, and don't want to be heavy medicated. I was looking for alternatives. I haven't found to much information about how they work through and also realized I need to hear a more personal experience someone has had.

I can really see why he suggested both. They fit me, and it doesn't matter what religion you are, you can still use them.

"A labyrinth has only one path. It is unicursal. The way in is the way out. There are no blind alleys. The path leads you on a circuitous path to the center and out again.....The choice is to enter or not. A more passive, receptive mindset is needed. The choice is whether or not to walk a spiritual path." This is from a website I found on them.

I also am not sure where to start with Mysticism. Its a board topic. Does anyone tap into this? I can ask my T to explain or something like that, but I really like knowing about a few things before that. I hate driving in blind.

Looking for more personal accounts, something! :)

Mysticism & labyrinths - not sure what your T means by this. Does he mean the general areas of mysticism or are there specific practices called the above which help with PTSD? If it's the latter have never heard of this before.. x

I don't think he meant to be used with PTSD at all. I think he meant it very generally.

I also think that he and from the things I have found, that labyrinths can be used however you like. Mysticism is very broad. He is probably talking of Sufism there.

A local artist is a specialist in labryniths....I've found them compelling, restful, and easing of distress.

A suggestion on mysticism...or any investigation into 'meaning', regardless of what it is, seems to me to be a step towards healing one of the deepest PTSD wounds, that is loss of systems of meaning. Even if whatever 'it' is one looks into, even if we find 'it' doesn't fit...we've still found a new 'place' in a framework of meaning.

The journey is the destination on this, I think.

...but your T.'s suggestion is just that, of course...a suggestion of one possible first step...or 1,000th. All yours to take or no, soak in, try on...accept what you like, leave the rest along the way.

May your journey be filled with peace and healing, whatever you paths you choose.

Hope you'll share it with us. :)
