I have recently been diagnosed with complex PTSD, severe depresson, and insomnia due to a work related incident 8 months ago. I'm still not quite sure why this incident has affected me because I have been in this profession for 15 years and seen just about everything. This was a near deadly force encounter with a 6-05,225 body builder on flakka and having a psychological meltdown. After all less lethal options didn't work, deadly force was my last resort. With pressure on the trigger and target in sights he dropped the large metal object he was comming at me with at the last second. 12 people later and he was detained. Fast foward a month after getting sick after almost every call, avoiding the places that reminded me of the incident, and all the other obvious signs, I went for help. A workers comp claim was started and I have been diagnosed by their doctor due to the work related incident. EMDR and typical ptsd meds and no improvement yet. Today, my duty weapon was stripped of me due to doctors orders of " no heavy machinery". Apparently they consider that heavy machinery. Anyone out there with any similar situations. Am I now wasted material, medical retirement, or is it possible to get better and go back to the career I love and have devoted myself to?
