You know what really is Christmas Madness? All of these awful Christmas cookery/homemade programmes which IMHO set us all up to be failures - in their eyes.
I've just watched Kirsty Allsops Homemade Christmas (other programmes are available), firstly, she lives in a huge house, her kitchen is larger than my kitchen and dining room together, secondly, we all have a local glass blower who will give us individual lessons and then supply 5 handblown glass baubles. Oh, and lets not forget the cake maker who call in and the 2 ladies to forage and make wreaths. Then of course, we can all afford to go to an antique centre to pick up bits to make more decorations.
It has taken me almost 33 years of married life to accept my limitations. Christmas is not about the perfect setting, cake and food. It is about family and friends and for those who are religious, the birth of Jesus.
So what if my cake is wonky and the icing the same as I did last year. Who cares if we have to serve the Christmas dinner in the kitchen as the table isn't large enough to hold the turkey and accompanyments. Sat around my table are the people who matter most in the world to me, who love me, wonky cake and all.
I will calm down now and have a coffee. Thanks for the vent.
