Let's Be Workout Freaks Together

My mind is willing but my body is.. well rebeling at the moment. Allergic reaction yesterday afternoon, and when I took benedryl... predictably slept for a whopping 9 hours straight. Feeling much better. Today... today today... See what I mean about inconsistent? I must close the gap between lip service and action... even if I say to myself... "Look self, unless you're dying and need to go to ER, you need to get your ass on that bike and walk those dogs." :cautious:

New workout gear I enjoy:

New gym shorts, really nice one's from Nike: they have an inner short, and are a very appropriate type of garment for a man to wear in the gym. Very modest and "correct hygiene" for a public facility, and look nice (navy blue) also.

Running/athletic shoes from New Balance: These are some of the current "minimalist" type running shoes with a low heel and fairly flat (and firm) sole, with some rocker under the toe. They look neat too, nice deep metallic green. On sale, 30% off.

Mask and Snorkle combo from dive shop: I will be in the pool, trying to get some aerobics, probably for the rest of my life. So a good mask/snorkle is a good thing to have. It makes swimming easier, less work and more fun. The mask is pretty comfortable and the snorkle works great; no head turning! And it's fun to dive down and swim underwater, also. Break-up the monotony, less arm repetition.

Having nice little things in my work-out/walking/exercise kit helps me feel better about myself, and seems to help my motivation a little also. Thrift stores are also sometimes very good for finding useful workout gear and clothing, it seems.

Enjoy the new gear james, alot people say new gear helps them feel better, for me it opposite getting new gear with the weight gain etc i prefer to wait till i lose some if ever before buying new stuff then again you are probably the right size etc.

Albatross its hard when your body doesn't want to cooperate, hang in there.

VD I use to love exercise i use to do it at evry given opportunity so i know where you are coming from but when you are out habit and feeling crap it does become a chore until you start to see results and get the benefits again. At moment its frustrating for me but i will hopefully get there little by little. I just have to forget where i have come from and stop looking back at what i could do and focus on what i can do at moment to try and get back there.

Just a small 3 mile walk for me this morning, planned on gym but not feeling very well phsycially so left it at the walk.

@Sazza--When I first started exercising I had to force myself too. I never looked forward to it. It took a little bit till I actually enjoyed and realized how much better I felt with it. Now, I try to fit it in whenever possible,
It's very much the same for me. Also there's some fluctuation in my motivation and drive. There are good days and there are bad days. The important thing for me is to not let bad days cause me to resign and throw the towel.

That made me giggle :D I'd say though, that things like allergies and especially the flu are rightful reasons to take a day off. Working out while your body is on the sick side isn't constructive at all.

Metallic green sounds neat :) Good to hear that you know so well how to get yourself a bit of extra motivation and fun!

My great workout plan for yesterday was sadly stifled by me sleeping from 5am till 4pm and then somehow the day was over again before I had even managed to get dressed. But today - in fact just five minutes ago - I did some workout. An hour with weights and a bit of stretching. Somehow my energy levels are still fairly low.

EDIT:
I just have to forget where i have come from and stop looking back at what i could do...
I read a study that showed that when you used to be fit and have a regular workout routine, the body gets back into that shape fairly quickly. So, getting back in shape happens much quicker than getting up to it for the first time (I hope this sentence makes sense O.o). So, there's much hope for quick results :)

I hope you are right, at moment i don't see signs of it struggling big time. A poxy 2 miles for me tonight and i stopped for couple seconds at 1.3 miles i am done in. I need the motivation to shift the excess weight its definitely hindering me.

Two miles? I wouldn't even survive half of that and according to surgeon general I don't have excess weight to drag around at all. So there, a bit of perspective for you :) Downward comparisons are one of the best ways to improve self-esteem ;)

Keep going, Sazza, it can only get better.

I still have my workout in front of me. My mood has been totally trashed last night so we'll see how that goes.

Freak i hope the mood improves, thanks for the words on encouragement. I will get back to half marathon distance one day just not any day soon until i get some consistency back.

Well lovely people it's monday a new week to try and kick my ass in Gear. I finally managed to drag myself to the gym, did 45 minutes of cardio then bit leg work. I find strength work boring but did leg weighted machines and few lunges, then couple of arm dumbell exercises. I wouldn't go as far as saying I enjoyed it like use to but I felt I pushed myself considering not Been in weeks. Just hope It's not a one off again.

Come on peeps it's a new week let's try and kick ourselves into action. If weather holds out ok
I may go for walk later on try keep moving.

Good job Sazza!
I am still loving my new workout DVDs. I am still a little bit sore from them but they are fun and make the workouts fly by. On my days off from work I am going to add in some biking on my stationary bike.
