In the thread "Self Harm - Help Me Understand" @Springer80 mentions an abstract by a member of the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation. Apparently it's about how positive attachment creates opioid receptors in the brain and how these connections are strengthened by further such experiences, and how people missing them attempt to get around the problem with a range of coping mechanisms ranging from self harm to OCD and eating disorders.
This puts a lot of things together that I would like to understand better, but I don't know where to find the abstract and she doesn't give any further information. She hasn't been on the board for a while.
Can anyone help? Either with a link to the abstract or any similar sources? Thanks in advance.
