Hello,

Does anybody know of a possible type of job that has evening hours, isn't overly physical (but could be somewhat physical) and keeps social triggers to a minimum (I know there will always be some triggers I'm just looking for an improvement on my current situation). To give a basis for comparison, I'm a nurse assistant now. I have to go into people's living space and take care of all of their daily living needs, some of which need some convincing. I'm having intense anxiety practically every day when I get there. I'm getting the job done, but sometimes I just feel like running for the hills. Also is kind of triggering urges to self-harm, and drink more. Any way, any ideas? I know there's not going to be a perfect answer. Also has to be evening cause my wife works during the day and I have to be home to take care of my son.

Have you looked at places like FedEx and UPS? They have night shifts sorting packages for next day delivery. Don't know what physical condition you are in but I can't imagine there is a lot of social interaction (triggers) doing something like that. A couple of other options would be the night shift in a bakery (a lot of these jobs start after 10 pm though), or you could work as a merchandise stocker for a big box store. This last one would most likely pay the least and not have benefits but you could also check with the postal service to see if they need mail sorters. This time of year for FedEx, UPS and the USPS are all generally hiring for the holiday season.

Night Filing @ the hospital. The pay here is about 20% better than CNAs make, about 50% less than HUCs make, and the job is populated almost entirely by nursing students who can’t get a HUC position or whose school hours don’t let them take a HUC role.

Basically it means singing the alphabet song to yourself for 8 hours, sitting in a mostly dark room in the admin section, by yourself. So if you get creeped out being the only person in big echoy dark spaces it would be a bad fit... but there are also other night shift roles in more populated areas of the hospital. But if you want to be all by yourself? Abcdefghijklmnop.... :singing:

I don't have issues with the dark, or being alone. Maybe I'll look at that. Also nurse assisting has been taking a toll on my body faster than I thought. Had to call out today cause if my hip. I always feel guilty calling out even if I have a good reason. Any way thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I just discovered a place called flexjobs.com. it's all about remote, flex hours, alternate hours and other combinations of jobs. I'm was ecstatic because the last thing I wanted to do was go work in an office surrounded by people.

I'll take a look at that , thank you . I have sciatica. I got seen for it on monday, and my doctor gave me a note to return Thursday . But the note also gave me a restriction on lifting when I do return, and my work called me and said they can't take me back with restrictions. So I have another appointment next Monday to evaluate. Meanwhile I feel anxious and guilty for being out of work for the week, and for the loss of income . On top of that my back hurts like hell and doesn't seem to be getting better. I'm just crazy anxious and I don't really know what to do if it takes a long time to heal. And it's tough to rest when I have to keep an eye on my 18 month old every second, and go over and stop him from getting into anything he shouldn't be. I'm just freaked out.

This is a FANTASTIC opening for being moved to another job in the hospital. From an admin point of view it’s infinitely easier to move someone than to hire someone completely new, and when an employee is injured on the job? Being able to move them to a different department heads off all kinds of lawsuits. So, take the week & get better better mo’ better... but I’d also schedule an appointment with HR to see about any positions that you might be able to do that have less physical requirements.

It's more of a nursing home . My injury didn't really occur at work (though it probably contributed indirectly), and I'm not sure they have much admin in general. Plus I've only been there 4 1/2 months , not sure they know me well enough for that kinda thing. What I want to do is teach guitar and music, but there's not much available for that kind of thing. I'm making 50$ performing at another nursing home on Saturday:)
