Hi, I had a hideous experience with LENS, there is no protocol, no guidelines, no consultations with Ochs lab, insufficient research, poor over sight, a lack of peer reviewed literature on it and people all over the USA undoubtedly have had negative impacts with no way to consolidate this information and provide better consumer protection. The person who gave me the treatment used 3 sessions to 'map" 21 sights on my brain, then I had 3 more treatments. I said maybe it needs to be more agressive after the first 3 did nothing, they were zapping me for 5 minutes, I thought the increase would be a minute or 2, but no, they bolted it up to 38 minutes!!!! After about 20 minutes I was feeling hot and sweating, then after 25 minutes I was feeling nauseated, after 30 minutes, I said STOP. I'm so pain tolerant that I should have said stop after 10 minutes, but it takes a bomb to make me realize I am feeling anything. I had to immediately lie down, I was sweating, dizzy, nauseated, and had a headache, it took a half hour before i could even stand up again and...that was 9 weeks ago.
I still have that headache, I NEVER used to have any headaches, and my anxiety, depression, insomnia, and irritability are much worse; cognitive functioning like adding, subtracting, memory, etc. have also noticeably declined. I am really sooooo angry about this, I don't know if I can file against them in small claims court or get a lawyer, but I am going to at least report this to BCIA, see if I can get this practitioner banned. I shouldn't have to be the one who has to tell the person doing it to take a wise, prudent approach. I'm not the specialist, but it was insane to go from 5 minutes to 38 minutes, highly unprofessional, risky, arbitrary and done on a lark as if going from 5 mph to 100 mph if someone says 'you're driving too slow". It felt retaliatory and sadistic. Anyone with any brains would suggest an incremental increase. Now, I feel like one of those people in the Nazi death camps that was being experimented on. I am left with WORSE PTSD than I ever had before.
I do NOT recommend LENs, I think the old, other approach where you control the screen is better and has been used long-term, it has better peer reviewed information on it. Dr. bessel Van der Kolk uses it in his Trauma Recovery Center and it is less invasive. I think this is LENS thing is a dangerous fad because they can charge a lot of money, it takes them a few minutes to zap the hell out of your brain and then you leave... whereas the other method takes 40 minutes and more patience on the part of the practitioner. It is dangerous and I would not recommend it to anyone. Too risky...unless you want to pay for your own lobotomy.
