Migraines

I do, but it happens pretty rarely for me so I think I'm a bit lucky on that front. When it does happen it's debilitating, though.

I do. Have suffered debilitating migraines since I was a little kid. Just had one last night, actually. I went to doctors for years; they thought I had a brain tumor and couldn't figure out why my migraines were so bad. I still don't have an answer. And nothing helps.

Yep.

My real migraines are from 1:4 sources ; tension in my neck (getting a massage once a week dropped my 2-5x a week migraines down to once or twice a month) ; Either my trigeminal or facial nerve getting f*cked up via sinus pressure. (Sudafed, taken very early on, will relieve the pressure & voila! If not early enough? Voila merde!) ; Flat Light ; & God Only Knows. All 4 are also royally stomped on -new find- with Zofran. No idea why. Not my docs, but they don't care, since it's not addictive they're more than happy to Rx it for me. Imatrex shots also work, but those are over $100 a pop, and the side effects are worse than the migraine. :wtf: So I'm really thrilled with finding that an anti-nausea med works like magic most of the time.

An upside to the last time I banged my head really hard (spiderweb fracture of my temporal bone, just behind and above my right ear), though, is that it "cured" about 90% of my migraines. Little scary, that, but I'll take silver linings where I can find them! But that still means I get a couple a month, on average.

My son's gotten them since he was about 5 or 6. His pediatrician said in kids it's almost always caused by a vitamin deficiency... And we did some experimenting... And found that the mornings where he eats boxed cereal? Whether they're "healthy" or chocolate frosted sugar bombs? He doesn't get migraines. For whatever reason chewable multivitamins are a hit or miss in whether or not they're effective, but a bowl of boxed cereal once a day, every day, prevents all but 1-2 a year. Down from 1-2 a month. Sold! :D

...

I also get what I think of as PTSD-headaches, which look like migraines to the rest of the world, but feel very different (ice pick in my brain! Aaaaaaaargh). Oddly? The biggest help for them (outside of curling up in the dark and shutting out the world for an unspecified amount of time; always hours, occasionally a day or two).... Video Games. Couple few hours of FPS gaming and while soothed almost immediately, inside of an hour or three they're completely gone. No. Idea. Why.

Yep - I am lucky that so far they respond to Maxalt.

I get them in my sleep too and have a Maxalt at the ready on my night table in case I feel one in the middle of the night I can just pop one and try to get back to sleep.

I've had them since I was in my 20's. I'm now in my 60's. I know, I'm such a bearer of good news. LOL!!!! But on the upside of 40+ yrs of migraines... They are getting a bit better. Used to have about 15-17 a month. Now I have maybe 5 a month.....

I take Sumatriptan and Fieroicet for them... The Sumatriptan works the best... Good luck!!!

Count me in, too. Started getting them as a kid and continue to do so now. They are always accompanied by visual disturbances and blindness as well. Sucks.

Unfortunately, I get them and have them upwards of 20-25 days a month. I have been to headache specialty clinics, I have have had brain surgery and tried every med on the market that could possibly help preventative and abortive. I had a TIA three months ago and can no longer take traditional migraine meds and when I was referred to a pain management specialist he told me there was nothing he could do for me and referred me to an addiction specialist even though I don't have a regular prescription for narcotic pain meds so am not sure what he thought I was addicted to.

I am sorry that you get them as well, I hope that you can get some relief.

Yup. Regularly. And Sumaputrin is my miracle cure.

But the real trick has been learning to distinguish them from tension headaches (neck muscles spasm, causing pinched nerves, causing almost indistinguishable from migraine!).

And if I've just had a bout of throwing up the entire content of my stomache? Again, dehydration and migraines tres similar, so reach for the rehydration meds first:)
