My coping skill is triggering me

@KerriJ coloring sunds like a really good idea! I find that a lot of the calming things (like sounds/meditation/yoga) tend to end up with me dissociated more than anything, but I like coloring, it’s like knitting for me, calming but active enough to keep me present. I tried avoiding TV altogether, as per advice on here, but I found that I tend to lose a lot more time dissociating and it’s a lot harder to track how much time has gone by when that happens. Also it has been nearly impossible to sleep without enough distraction. I like the idea of kids shows, they are super mellow and maybe that will help a bit.

If you find calming things tend to dissociate you, try to use touch to ground. I use slime, play do, stress balls, rice bags, and hot drinks to help when that happens.
Definitely try coloring it's helped me a ton! My fav relax kids shows is Totally Spies, Miraculous Lady Bug, the original Magic School Bus, and I love Pop Pixie & Winx Club.

Another idea that works for me is playing music videos on tv. I'll choose a band that's generally happy sounding or soothing if I'm feeling on edge. Classical music or other music without words would probably be best to avoid triggers!
